“It is great. To come out here in Poland to fight a Polish guy for the title, it doesn’t get much better than that,” Askham said to Sherdog.com. “I love that atmosphere. I’m looking forward to it.”
In that title bout, Askham will face Michal
Materla in a rematch of their KSW 42 encounter, which the
Englishman won via technical knockout in just 69 seconds. Now,
Askham needs to show that win was not a fluke and he truly is the
better fighter in order to win the belt.
“This will be the first rematch of my career. As I said, I would love to fight every one of my losses again to prove how much better I am,” he explained. “He has the opportunity to do that but I don’t doubt my skills. I’m prepared for five hard rounds. If I can get him out early then great, but this is a big moment of my career. I’m more than ready.”
Askham believes his experience and training at American Top Team will give him the edge against Materla.
We both have fought some good guys. I don’t think who I have fought will change how it goes,” he said. “I feel like since my move to American Top Team it is the biggest move of my career. The coaching, training partners, facility. My game has gotten a lot better.”
In the end, Askham is just looking forward to Saturday and winning the belt and becoming KSW’s new middleweight champion.
“I’ve promised my daughters that I am taking that belt home. I’m more than confident for this fight,” he concluded.
