The bout will headline a pay-per-view event at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California and will be contested over eight rounds. Tyson and Jones Jr. will be allowed to wear 12-ounce gloves, and California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster has stated the fight will be considered an exhibition instead of a normal bout. The price of the event will reportedly be $49.99.
The 54-year-old Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) hasn’t competed since he retired on his stool in a loss to Kevin McBride in 2005. In his prime, “Iron” Mike was the youngest heavyweight champion in the sports history at age 20 and held the undisputed crown from 1987 to 1990. The former heavyweight king recently revealed that he plans on starting a Legends Only League, a promotion which will book aging fighters against one another.
The 51-year-old Jones Jr. (66-9 47 KOs) last stepped into the ring in 2018 and exited the Sweet Science on a four-bout winning streak. Over the course of a decorated career, Jones Jr. captured belts at middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. Jones Jr. currently operates his own organization, Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions, which airs its events on UFC Fight Pass.
