Reports: Barboza vs. Ige, Anders vs. Jotko Set for UFC Fight Night 172 on May 16

Edson Barboza is expected to make his first featherweight foray against Dan Ige at UFC Fight Night 172 on May 16.

Brazilian outlet Combate first reported the matchup. UFC Fight Night 172 takes playce at Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida and will also include a middleweight tilt pitting Eryk Anders against Krzystzof Jotko, according to a report from MMAjunkie.com. The card will be headlined by a heavyweight showdown between Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris.

Barboza elected to drop to 145 pounds after losing four of his last five Octagon appearances at lightweight. Most recently, the 34-year-old American Top Team member dropped a contentious split decision to Paul Felder at UFC 242 this past September.

Ige has won five consecutive bouts after falling to Julio Arce in his promotional debut at UFC 220. “Dynamite” earned a signature triumph at UFC 247, where he garnered a split-decision win over Mirsad Bektic in Houston on Feb. 8.

After losing four of five UFC bouts from February 2018 to April 2019, Anders is back on track after earning consecutive victories against Vinicius Moreira Castro and Gerald Meerschaert in his final two promotional appearances of 2019.

Jotko is also on a two-fight winning streak, as he took a unanimous verdict against Alen Amedovski at UFC Fight Night 149 and a split decision against Marc-Andre Barriault at UFC 240 last year. Prior to that, the Polish middleweight had lost three straight within the Las Vegas-based promotion.
