According to Combate on Thursday evening, the promotion is looking to book Robert Whittaker (20-5) against Darren Till (18-2-1) at middleweight. The two will square off as the main event for a card on July 25, and the location has not yet been determined although it is being considered for “Fight Island.” Both men were initially tapped to headline the Aug. 15 event in Dublin, but that event was scratched due to the coronavirus.

Whittaker’s last outing saw him surrender his title to Israel Adesanya at UFC 243 in October 2019. The knockout in Round 2 snapped a nine-fight win streak including his victory capture the interim belt at UFC 213 against Yoel Romero. Elevated to the undisputed throne when Georges St. Pierre vacated his championship, Whittaker was unable to defend it in a rematch against Romero when Romero missed weight and the bout was changed to a non-title fight. The last four wins for “Bobby Knuckles” earned the TUF Smashes winner five post-fight bonuses.

Till made his triumphant move up to middleweight in November when he captured a split verdict over former title challenger Kelvin Gastelum. The win also snapped a two-fight finish loss skid, with defeats to Tyron Woodley in a title fight and Jorge Masvidal in a Fight Night headliner. Prior to those losses, Till maintained a lengthy unbeaten streak where he beat he likes of Donald Cerrone and Stephen Thompson to earn that welterweight title shot.
