Report: Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante, Daniel Sarafian Released by UFC

Former Strikeforce champion Rafael Cavalcante and onetime “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” finalist Daniel Sarafian have been cut from the Ultimate Fighting Championship roster, according to a report.

News of the Brazilian fighters’ release was first reported on Saturday by OlimpoMMA.com, who cited unnamed sources close to the UFC.

Cavalcante, 35, was winless in his last three Octagon appearances and had competed sporadically in recent years, fighting only once in 2014 and 2015. He was last seen on Feb. 6, when he dropped a lackluster unanimous decision to Ovince St. Preux in Las Vegas. “Feijao” exits with an overall UFC record of 1-4, his lone victory coming in a November 2013 stoppage of Igor Pokrajac. The Sao Paulo native is best known for capturing the Strikeforce light heavyweight crown from Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal in 2010.

Sarafian, 33, reached the final round of “TUF: Brazil” Season 1 but was unable to compete at the finale due to an injury. The Power MMA middleweight went 2-4 in his UFC run, including an unsuccessful one-fight stint at 170 pounds. Sarafian’s last bout was on Feb. 21 in Pittsburgh, where he was knocked out in 60 seconds by Oluwale Bamgbose.
