Renan Ferreira Triangles Jared Vanderaa in LFA 74 Main Event

In his Legacy Fighting Alliance debut in June, Brazil's Renan Ferreira was disqualified due to illegal strikes. On Friday night in the main event of LFA 74, he made sure the same fate would befall him again.

Ferreira (6-2) used his long reach against fellow heavyweight Jared Vanderaa to batter his legs in the first and then nearly knocked him out with punches in the second. "Problema" busted up Vanderaa's face with an onslaught of punches, but he nearly gassed himself out. With blood pouring from his face, "The Mountain" scored a takedown out of desperation, but that move sealed his fate.

Ferreira wrapped his foe up with a classic triangle from off his back, locked it in and forced Vanderaa (9-4) to tap out. The end came officially at 2:37 of the second.

In a bantamweight showdown that was as close as they come, it was Kevin Wirth who had his hand raised after three rounds. Ryan Lilley appeared to control the pace of the action, but it was the pesky kicks and awkward strikes of "Mr. Nice Guy" that swayed the judges. Lilley (10-5) seemed to do just enough to prevail, but all three officials had it 29-28 for Wirth, who improved to 7-1.

After going 0-2, Lucas Rota finally nabbed a win inside the LFA cage as he torched Moses Murrietta in just 24 seconds. Rota (13-8) jumped on "Motown" as soon as the middleweight encounter began and unloaded an endless tidal wave of punches to the head. Murrietta (8-3) tried to recover and survive, but Rota never stopped throwing until his foe was knocked down and eventually out.

Ukrainian grappler Liudvik Sholinian (6-1-1) used his ground skills to thwart Vince Cachero throughout their bantamweight encounter to win a split decision. Cachero (6-2) started off well, landing solid strikes and controlling the action, but Sholinian rallied in rounds two and three with takedowns and ground control to take the decision. While one judge inexplicably scored the bout 30-26 for Cachero, that puzzling tally was offset by the other two who both favored Sholinian 29-28.

Lightweight prospect Salvador Becerra (7-2) turned in a workmanlike performance against Bellator veteran Steve Kozola and won a unanimous decision for his effort. Becerra landed the overall better strikes, scored takedowns and nearly finished Kozola (9-4) via mounted punches in the closing seconds of the third. In the end, Becerra was given the judges' nod via tallies of 29-28 (twice) and 29-27.

Brazilian bantamweight Leandro Gomes was sensational in his LFA debut as he busted up Anthony Jimenez on the feet with punches and then took him to the canvas. From there, Gomes (4-1) rolled Jimenez (4-1-1) into a textbook kneebar, forcing his foe to tap at 3:05 of the first.

Spike Carlyle (7-1) created a frenzy in the opening bout of the AXS TV telecast as he torched fellow lightweight Matthew Colquhoun in the opening frame. The two sized each other up for the first few minutes of the contest, but when Colquhoun (6-4) dropped his hands while coming inside, "The Alpha Ginger" knocked him cold with a spinning back fist to the face. The end came officially at 3:58 of the round.
