Owen Roddy Leaves SBG Ireland To Focus On His Own Gym

After 15 years, Straight Blast Gym Ireland Coach Owen Roddy is leaving the team.

According to a post on his Instagram page on Friday, Coach Roddy will be moving on from SBG Ireland to focus on his own gym, Owen Roddy MMA PT, and SBG Charlestown. The split certainly appears to be amicable, with Roddy pictured holding a farewell cake amid smiling students and thanking SBG head coach John Kavanagh for "the lovely plaque."

Representing SBG when he competed in MMA across a seven-year career, Roddy amassed a record of 11-4 with 10 stoppage wins, only going the distance once. After ending his MMA career following a technical submission loss to current Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight Wilson Reis, Roddy turned full-time to coaching, and famously serves as Conor McGregor’s striking coach.
