Mongkolpetch Petchyindee Academy Overcomes Elias Mahmoudi Atop One: Full Blast 2

One Championship aired the second part of its “Full Blast” series on Friday, composed of pre-recorded fights from previous months.

In the One: Full Blast 2 main event, Mongkolpetch Petchyindee Academy locked horns with Elias Mahmoudi in a 138.5-pound catchweight muay Thai clash. The French-Algerian Mahmoudi started strong, constantly advancing and landing with punch and kick combinations. While Mongkolpetch was forced to back up much of the time, he scored effective counterstrikes on his opponent. The Thai fighter ended the round by sniping Mahmoudi with a punch to the midsection followed by a clean short elbow.

Mongkolpetch came out much more aggressively in the second period, keeping his opponent at bay with kicks and tying Mahmoudi up with the clinch. A jab-right hand combination from Mongkolpetch dropped Mahmoudi, but the Mahmoudi recovered from the shot and beat the official count. Mahmoudi felt the urgency to stop his opponent in the final stanza as he rushed forward with punches and elbows. On the other side, Mongkolpetch resorted to the clinch and dumped Mahmoudi to the canvas as many times as he could. When time expired, two of the judges sided with Mongkolpetch while one scored the match a draw, allowing the Thai fighter to take home a majority decision victory.

The MMA main attraction on the card saw Tsogookhuu Amarsanaa (6-2) welcoming Bellator MMA alum Benjamin Wilhelm (5-1) to the One lightweight division. Tsogookhuu displayed impressive hand speed early in the first frame, clipping the American with shots that Wilhelm walked through. The unbeaten newcomer sought to slow down the Mongolian by tying him up in the clinch, but Tsogookhuu escaped repeatedly without losing much momentum. As the rounds progressed, Tsogookhuu gained distance and landed at volume, all while avoiding the powerful counter that never scored. After a fairly one-sided performance, Tsogookhuu earned a unanimous nod from the judges to get his hand raised.

Earlier on the card, Yoon Chang Min (5-1) submitted Jia Wen Ma (6-4) with a rear-naked choke at the 1:46 mark of the first frame. The finish was not without controversy, as it appeared that referee Mohamad Sulaiman rushed in to stop the contest before “Cannon” tapped. In the first fight on the card, Taiki Naito captured a unanimous verdict from Wang Wenfeng in a flyweight kickboxing tilt.
