Mizuki Inoue Injured, Kaline Medeiros Steps in Versus Alline Serio at Invicta FC 17

Fight week has extracted a cost from Saturday's Invicta FC 17 line-up at The Hangar at the O.C. Fair in Costa Mesa, Calif.

Monday, the promotion announced that 21-year-old Japanese prospect Mizuki Inoue has been forced to withdraw her strawweight contest with Brazilian Alline Serio due to an undisclosed injury suffered in training. Serio will now meet a fellow countrywoman, as Inoue will be replaced by Kaline Medeiros.

Invicta FC also announced that a scheduled atomweight contest between 4-0 Julia Jones and 4-1 Tessa Simpson has been nixed from the card. No reason was given for the bout's removal.

Following hotly contested losses to unbeaten up-and-comers Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Alexa Grasso, Inoue responded by ripping off three straight wins over Emi Fujino, Lacey Schuckman and Nori Date between Invicta FC and Deep's Jewels promotion.

The 37-year-old Medeiros, a Boston-based Brazilian training under Mark DellaGrotte, is on a three-fight winning streak of her own. Following a February 2015 decision loss to Chel-c Bailey, “The Dark Angel” visited the New England Fights, Bellator MMA and Legacy FC cages, racking up wins over Calie Cutler, Sarah Payant and Kathina Catron.

Serio, 32, has won five of her last six bouts, with the lone defeat coming in a March 2014 unanimous decision loss to divisional standout Kalindra Faria.

Invicta FC 17 is headlined by a title doubleheader, featuring promotional bantamweight champion Tonya Evinger staking her title against Colleen Schneider, and undefeated 115-pound ace Livia Renata Souza putting her gold on the line against UFC veteran Angela Hill.
