Marvin Vettori Discusses Short Notice Fight Against Andrew Sanchez

After Marvin Vettori returned from suspension, he said he wanted to fight often, and he is keeping to his word.

After picking up a win at UFC Fight Night 155 in July, Vettori (13-4-1) is doing just that as he will step in on short notice to replace David Branch and take on Andrew Sanchez (11-4) at UFC Fight Night 158 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

For Vettori, he wasn't sure if the fight would happen, but is glad he was the one the Ultimate Fighting Championship selected.

"(I found out) a couple of days ago. They asked me if I want to fight Andrew Sanchez and I said absolutely yes," Vettori said to Sherdog.com on Thursday. "I didn't think he would accept because he has turned me down before. So, I said yes and I guess he accepted, too. I had no injuries after my last fight so I'm back on a new deal and ready to fight."

Ahead of this fight, Vettori signed a new contract, but he says he signed the new contract before he heard of this fight, and the two are not related.

Regardless, the Italian is just eager to take the fight, and knows his weight won't be a problem. "A lot of fighters in MMA get fat after their fights so they can’t make a quick turnaround. I always stay in shape and am fit and ready for anything," he said.

With seven weeks to go, Vettori is already confident he has what it takes to beat Sanchez. He believes he is miles better, and that the fight is just a "stay busy" fight.

"Yeah, he won't pass the second. He just doesn't have the skills all-around to match me," Vettori concluded. "This fight is to just make money. I see a money sign when I see his face."
