Marlon Moraes Named as Miguel Torres’ Opponent for Nov. 3 World Series of Fighting Debut

Miguel Torres now has an opponent for his World Series of Fighting debut, as promotion officials announced Friday that the former World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight titlist will lock horns with Marlon Moraes on Nov. 3 at WSOF 1.

The bout is expected to serve as the evening's co-main event and takes place at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The show will be headlined by a heavyweight confrontation between onetime UFC kingpin Andrei Arlovski and ex- IFL and Strikeforce talent Devin Cole.

A 45-fight veteran, Torres, 31, recently received his UFC release on the heels of a first-round knockout defeat to rising talent Michael McDonald at UFC 145. Torres began his career 37-1, capturing the WEC bantamweight title in 2008 before relinquishing the strap in his fourth title defense. That 2009 setback against Brian Bowles signaled the beginning of a 3-4 stretch for the Hoosier, who posted a 2-2 record during his time with the UFC.

Moraes, 24, recently completed a two-fight stint with the Florida-based Xtreme Fighting Championships, outpointing Bellator and WEC vet Chris Manuel before knocking out Jarod Card four months later in his most recent in-cage appearance. The Floridian owns six of his eight career victories by either knockout or submission and has gone the distance just twice during his five years as a pro.
