Makhachev-Ramos, Taisumov-Ferreira Matchups Added to UFC 242

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has added two exciting lightweight matchups to the upcoming UFC 242 card, both between fighters on impressive win streaks.

The UFC announced Friday the two bouts they are adding to the card. Islam Makhachev (17-1) will face Davi Ramos (10-2), while Mairbek Taisumov (27-5) meets Carlos Diego Ferreira (15-2), both at lightweight at UFC 242.

Makhachev last competed at UFC Fight Night 149 against the debuting Arman Tsarukyan, where the two engaged in a "Fight of the Night" battle to give Makhachev the win as well as his first post-fight bonus in seven UFC appearances. Currently riding a five-fight win streak, Makhachev submitted Kajan Johnson, knocked out Gleison Tibau and beat Nik Lentz and Chris Wade on the scorecards along that stretch.

Ramos faced Austin Hubbard at UFC Fight Night 152 last month and staved off the UFC newcomer by decision. As Ramos is on a four-fight win streak of his own, the other three wins all came by rear-naked choke over John Gunther, Nick Hein and Chris Gruetzemacher. In that run, the 2015 ADCC champion handed Hein and Gunther their first career submission losses.

Taisumov has beaten his last six opponents dating back to October 2014, knocking out five opponents in a row including Damir Hadzovic and Alan Patrick Silva Alves. Most recently, "Beckan" competed at UFC Fight Night 136 last September, missing weight by five pounds and earning his second decision win among 27 career victories over Desmond Green. Taisumov will be coming off a short suspension from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for contaminated supplements containing stanozolol.

Sherdog.com's 2018 "Walkout Song of the Year" winner Ferreira faced Rustam Khabilov in his last outing at UFC Fight Night 145 in February, where he snapped the Russian's six-fight win streak by outworking him to a decision victory. Since losing in 2015, Ferreira has not tasted defeat, beating the likes of Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Jared Gordon. He was supposed to compete at UFC 237 in May, but fell ill due to his weight cut and his bout with Francisco Trinaldo was cancelled.

UFC 242 will take place on Sept. 7 at a to-be-announced venue in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The event will be headlined by a lightweight title unification match between champ Khabib Nurmagomedov and interim titleholder Dustin Poirier. Also on the card will be a significant heavyweight matchup between Curtis Blaydes and Shamil Abdurakhimov.
