Luis Santos Outworks Igor Svirid in One Championship ‘Titles and Titans’ Main Event
Put another Luis Santos
win in the books.
The American Top Team representative overcame a tepid start to capture a unanimous decision over Igor Svirid in the One Championship “Titles and Titans” headliner on Saturday at Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia. Santos, 35, has pieced together a two-fight winning streak since his April 2015 matchup with Ben Askren resulted in a no-contest. He has not lost a fight in more than four years.
After two forgettable rounds that saw referee Yuji Shimada issue
three yellow cards for timidity, the two men made up for lost time.
Santos (63-9-1) struck for a takedown inside the first minute of
round three and tore into the Kazakhstani welterweight with elbows
from the top, opening multiple cuts in the process. The Brazilian
threatened with a rear-naked choke and achieved full mount at one
point, but Svirid (10-3) found his way to his feet, bullied “Sapo”
to the ground and put together a late surge of hammerfists and
punches. However, his efforts failed to net the finish he
needed.
In the featherweight co-main event, Team Lakay export Edward Kelly knocked out journeyman Vincent Latoel a little less than a minute into the second round of their confrontation. Latoel (16-18-2) hit the deck 57 seconds into round two.
Latoel, 37, has lost four of his past five bouts.
Meanwhile, Polish karateka Marcin Prachnio blew away Evolve MMA rep Jake Butler with first-round knees in their middleweight showcase. Butler (7-2) met his end 2:30 into round one.
Prachnio (12-2) stonewalled the American wrestler’s takedown attempts with clinch knees and an effective sprawl. Still, Butler executed a pair of takedowns, though he was unable to consolidate either of them with damage or positional control. Prachnio escaped to his feet, sprawled out of another takedown and blasted the crouched Butler with knees to the head for the stoppage.
The 28-year-old Prachnio has rattled off seven consecutive victories, five of them finishes.
In other action, Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev (4-0) submitted Jietebusibai Haolan (1-3) with a guillotine choke 26 seconds into the first round of their lightweight clash; Anthony Engelen (5-2) tapped Sami Amin (5-4) with a rear-naked choke 52 seconds into round two of their featherweight tilt; Casey Suire (6-2) eked out a split decision over Xie Bin (0-1) in their three-round bantamweight encounter; Su Noto (5-2) submitted Yohan Mulia Legowo (8-5) with a rear-naked choke in the first round of their lightweight affair; and Bernard Soriano (3-2) knocked out Mario Satya Wirawan (5-4) with a spinning back fist 15 seconds into the first round of their bantamweight pairing.

Kelly (8-3) spent much of the first five minutes circling on the
outside. He kicked at all levels, punched in combination and
integrated the occasional clinch, all while successfully defending
Latoel’s striking bursts. Early in the second round, Kelly
retreated to the fence and caught the Golden Glory veteran coming
in, a clean right hook felling him where he stood.
