Kickboxing Star Gokhan Saki to Make Octagon Debut at UFC Fight Night in Japan

Former Glory and K-1 kickboxing world champion Gokhan Saki has a date for his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut.

The Las Vegas-based promotion announced Friday that Saki will square off against Henrique da Silva in a light heavyweight tilt at UFC Fight Night in Japan on Sept. 23. The card takes place at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, and is headlined by a light heavyweight rematch between Ovince St. Preux and Mauricio Rua.

Saki has one mixed martial arts bout on his record, a technical knockout loss to James Zikic at Cage Fighting Championships 1 “Cage Carnage” in Liverpool on July 11, 2004. The 33-year-old is far more decorated in the kickboxing realm, as he owns an 83-12 mark and has defeated the likes of Tyrone Spong, Melvin Manhoef, Daniel Ghita and Ray Sefo.

Da Silva, meanwhile, enters the matchup having fallen to Ion Cutelaba, Jordan Johnson and Paul Craig in his last three outings under the UFC banner. The Brazilian known as “Frankenstein” began his pro career with 12 straight triumphs, including finishes of Jonathan Wilson and Joachim Christensen in the Octagon.
