“Let’s don’t get it twisted I already smoked these [two] now they play fighting,” Diaz wrote on Twitter.
Chimaev responded to Diaz’s post, calling for a December showdown with the Stockton, California, native.
“I don’t play fighting, I fight, so get your soft body to Vegas and I will smoke you on Dec. 19,” Chimaev wrote. “You are a real fighter so let’s go [Nate Diaz].”
The 26-year-old Chimaev has quickly made a name for himself in the UFC, wiping out John Phillips, Rhys McKee and Gerald Meerschaert in his first three Octagon appearances. All three victories came inside of two rounds and in lopsided fashion — included a 17-second knockout off the well-traveled Meerschaert in his last outing at UFC Fight Night 178.
The Allstars Training Center representative was initially slated to meet Demian Maia after the win over Meerscheart, but the promotion seemingly has other plans for the fast-rising star.
Diaz, meanwhile, last appeared at UFC 244, where he last to Jorge Masvidal via doctor’s stoppage in a battle for the “BMF” title at Madison Square Garden. The UFC had reportedly been targeting a Masvidal-Diaz rematch for early 2021, but now it appears the Las Vegas-based organization might be interested in booking Masvidal against Colby Covington instead.
