Khabib Nurmagomedov Won’t Rule Out Future Reconciliation with Conor McGregor

The Khabib Nurmagomedov-Conor McGregor rivalry culminated with a post-fight brawl following their headlining bout at UFC 229. Despite the animosity that led to that incident, Nurmagomedov could envision a situation where the two fighters settled their differences in an amicable fashion.

“Everything is possible. Just as McGregor and I feuded, so we could reconcile,” Nurmagomedov said at a news conference in Moscow on Monday, per the Associated Press.

“Who are we not to forgive one another when the Almighty forgives us,” he added.

Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor via fourth-round submission on Oct. 6 in Las Vegas. After securing the tapout, “The Eagle” jumped out of the Octagon to attack McGregor training partner Dillon Danis. That served as the catalyst for a post-fight melee that also saw members of Nurmagomedov’s team enter the Octagon to confront McGregor. Both Nurmagomedov and McGregor are expected to appear before the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Dec. 10 for a disciplinary hearing.

Like McGregor before him, Nurmagomedov has expressed interest in a potential showdown with retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather. McGregor earned a lucrative payday for a boxing match against “Money” in August 2017, which Mayweather won by technical knockout in the 10th round. While UFC President Dana White has dismissed the possibility of another one of his fighters boxing Mayweather, Nurmagomedov appears to be more interested in that bout than a pairing with current top UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson.

“For legacy and in the sense of the money aspect, and in a sporting sense, I think the Mayweather fight is much more interesting,” Nurmagomedov said. “The athletics commission needs to finish up first and then we’ll talk.”
