Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington Targeted for UFC 244
Kamaru
Usman reportedly has his first title defense set as he will
take on Colby
Covington at UFC 244. The
news was first reported by
Combate. However, American Top Team owner, and Covington's
manager, Dan Lambert tells Sherdog.com that no bout offers have
been sent or signed as of yet. If the fight does happen it will end
the talk of both fighters saying they are ducking one another.
Usman, won the welterweight title last time out as he beat Tyron Woodley by decision. He is currently riding a 14-fight winning streak with notable wins over Demian Maia, Rafael dos Anjos, and Leon Edwards.
Covington, meanwhile, is the former interim welterweight champion after he beat dos Anjos back at UFC 225. Yet, he was passed over for the title shot and returned to the Octagon earlier this month and beat Robbie Lawler by decision. "Chaos" is on a seven-fight winning streak with wins over Maia, Max Griffin, and Dong Hyun Kim among others.
UFC 244 goes down on Nov. 2 in New York City at Madison Square Garden.
