The former UFC heavyweight champion recently revealed on Instagram
that he underwent a minor procedure on his shoulder following his
unanimous decision triumph over Ben Rothwell
in the main event of UFC
Fight Night in Zagreb, Croatia, earlier this month. “Cigano”
did not give a timetable for his return.
“Despite being Brazilian I’ve never played soccer very well. I also
wasn’t good enough [at] swimming or running or any sports like
those. But luckily I found myself in the fight world and I can say
I’m good at it,” he wrote. “But fighting demands a lot and
sometimes even in victory we can get hurt. I could say that now
would be a very difficult time for me, but I actually feel blessed.
I hurt my shoulder a bit, but I won a great fight, and I’m having
an excellent care so that very, very soon I will be 100 [percent]
again.
“I had a small surgery this morning and as my good friend Dr.
Howard Gelb, who took great care of me, said, everything went
perfectly. And guess what: I’m already at home relaxing. I just
would like to let you guys know through me.”
After beginning his UFC tenure with nine consecutive victories, dos
Santos has alternated wins and losses in his last six fights.
However, his dominant five-round verdict over Rothwell was a
promising return to form after a second-round technical knockout
loss to Alistair
Overeem at UFC on Fox 17.
