Jon Jones Makes Case to Be Stipe Miocic’s Next Foe, Gives Warning to Brock Lesnar

Jon Jones is preparing to make his heavyweight debut, and he’s already making a case as to why he should leapfrog Francis Ngannou to be the division’s No. 1 contender.

“Stipe [Miocic] doesn’t want to fight Francis again because the first fight really wasn’t close,” Jones wrote on Twitter. “Looking at it from Stipe’s point of view, fighting Francis again is definitely more of a lose situation than a win. Stipe asked for a new challenge, why not fight the light heavyweight GOAT?

“Besides, we’re way closer in size. What’s more exciting than that?”

Jones recently vacated his light heavyweight title in preparation for a move to heavyweight. A date for his debut in the big man’s division is unknown, but UFC president Dana White has stated that Ngannou is next in line to face Miocic, who is coming of a trilogy victory over Daniel Cormier at UFC 252.

“Francis is definitely next,” White said following UFC 252. “I mean, you can’t jump over Francis. Francis has been out there destroying everybody, and if you look at how long ago it was that he got that title shot, he’s worked his way back. It belongs to Francis Ngannou.”

In his series of tweets, Jones references the first meeting between Miocic and Ngannou, which the Ohio-based firefighter won in convincing fashion at UFC 220. Ngannou has turned things around since then, earning first round finishes against Curtis Blaydes, Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos and Jairzinho Rozenstruik in his last four Octagon appearances.

Jones also turned his attention to former heavyweight king Brock Lesnar, who is no longer under WWE contract.

Jones first broached the topic of a showdown with Lesnar after facing Daniel Cormier for a second time at UFC 214 in July 2017.

“If you want to know what it feels like to get your ass kicked by a guy who weighs 40 pounds less than you, meet me in the Octagon,” Jones said in a post-fight interview that night.

Lesnar, 43, has not fought in the UFC since 2016.
