James Thompson-Bobby Lashley, Prangley, Galesic Join Super Fight League 3 Bill

Two hulking heavyweights will square off in Super Fight League’s next main event, promotion officials announced Wednesday, as James Thompson will face Bobby Lashley on May 6.

The Indian promotion also revealed three additional contests for Super Fight League 3, which takes place at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. UFC veteran Trevor Prangley will lock horns with Baga Agaev in a light heavyweight affair, while onetime World Extreme Cagefighting titlist Doug Marshall will face Zelg Galesic at middleweight. Also showcased will be a 125-pound women’s attraction pitting Lena Ovchynnikova against Joanne Calderwood. As with the promotion’s previous two installments, the event will stream live on YouTube.

Thompson, 33, made his SFL debut at the promotion’s inaugural event on March 11, defeating fellow Pride Fighting Championships veteran Bob Sapp. A nine-year pro, “The Colossus” has fought for a variety of organizations over the course of his career, including Dream, Sengoku, Cage Rage and EliteXC. The Brit was recently noted for his two-fight series with Polish strongman Mariusz Pudzianowski, besting the 35-year-old in their first bout and fighting to a controversial no-contest in the rematch.

Lashley, meanwhile, is a former professional wrestler with World Wrestling Entertainment. After beginning his MMA career a perfect 5-0, the 35-year-old was stopped by cagey heavyweight Chad Griggs in August 2010. “The Dominator” rebounded from the defeat, however, posting victories over John Ott and Karl Knothe to close out 2011.
