Jai Herbert Replaces Stevie Ray on Short Notice at UFC London

A new Cage Warriors Fighting Championship alum has made his way into the big leagues.

Jai Herbert has accepted a short-notice call for a clash with Marc Diakese at UFC London. The news was first reported by Newsome MMA and then confirmed by the fighter himself on his social media channels.

Herbert (10-1) won the Cage Warriors vacant lightweight championship at the expense of Jack Grant in emphatic fashion at Cage Warriors 106. “The Black Country Banger” then defended his belt after scoring a first-round KO against UFC veteran Cain Carrizosa at CW 109. The 31-year old Englishman is riding a six-bout winning streak, with all the victories coming inside the distance save for an unanimous decision victory over Erdi Karatas at CW 94.

Diakese (14-3) was scheduled to clash with Steven Ray (23-9) initially, but the latter was forced to pull out from the fight due to an undisclosed injury. After a promising beginning in which he secured three consecutive victories, Diakese’s adventure in UFC took a wrong turn which saw the British fighter lose three straight against Drakkar Klose, Dan Hooker and Nasrat Haqparast. The “Bonecrusher” then bounced back, edging both Joseph Duffy and Lando Vannata in his last two Octagon appearances.

UFC London — also known as UFC Fight Night 171 — will go down on March 21 at The O2 Arena in London and is headlined by a welterweight tilt between Tyron Woodley and Leon Edwards.
