Holly Holm will return to the site of her greatest achievement in MMA when she faces Raquel Pennington in a rematch at UFC 243 in Melbourne.
ESPN.com was first to report the bantamweight contest. Holm scored one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport when she knocked out then champion Ronda Rousey with a head kick at UFC 193 in Melbourne in November 2015. Both Holm and Pennington have verbally agreed to the bout. Holm defeated Pennington via split decision in their first meeting at UFC 184.
UFC 243 takes place at Marvel Stadium on Oct. 5 and will feature middleweight title unification fight between reigning champ Robert Whittaker and interim titlist Israel Adesanya.
Holm has gone just 2-5 since her victory over Rousey, earning victories over Bethe Correia and Megan Anderson during that time. Most recently, the Jackson-Wink MMA standout came up short in another bid for bantamweight gold at UFC 239, where she suffered a first-round TKO loss to Amanda Nunes.
Pennington went on a four-bout winning streak following her loss to Holm to earn a title shot of her own. She fell to Nunes in that championship clash at UFC 224 and then dropped a decision to Germaine de Randamie in her next outing at UFC Fight Night 139. “Rocky” returned to the win column with a split verdict over Irene Aldana at UFC on ESPN 4 on July 20.
