Healy, Villante, Rousey Top Strikeforce Challengers 18 Payroll

Although not part of the televised portion of the show, light heavyweight prospect Gian Villante still pocketed one of the largest disclosed purses from Friday’s Strikeforce Challengers 18.

The 26-year-old New Yorker earned $10,000 with his unanimous decision win against Keith Berry ($2,000) at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, according to figures released Monday to Sherdog.com by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Main-card lightweight Pat Healy also netted $10,000 in disclosed pay -- $5,000 to show, $5,000 to win -- for his three-round unanimous nod over Eric Wisely ($3,000).

The Villante-Berry bout was the evening’s final preliminary contest before the Showtime-broadcast main card. Along with the paycheck, Villante picked up his first victory under the Strikeforce banner, having been punched out by Chad Griggs in February and outpointed by Lorenz Larkin in June.

Healy, 28, won his second in a row, following up on a February decisioning of the previously unbeaten Lyle Beerbohm.

The night’s next-highest earner was 2008 Olympic judo bronze medalist Ronda Rousey, who took home $8,000 for her controversial submission of Sarah D’Alelio ($5,000). In only her third professional outing, Rousey continued her pattern of lightning-quick armbar wins, latching herself onto D’Alelio’s right limb in just 25 seconds. While D’Alelio did not tap out, referee Steve Mazzagatti waved the fight off after acknowledging a yelp from “The Monster” as a verbal submission.

Four fighters tied for third place on the payroll with disclosed purses of $6,000: Joe Duarte, who notched a unanimous decision over Jorge Gurgel ($5,000) in the show’s headliner; Strikeforce newcomer Nate James, who narrowly upset former UFC and WEC talent Danillo Villefort ($5,000); and undercarders Nah-Shon Burrell and Mike Bronzoulis, who scored stoppage wins over Lukasz Les and Chad Leonhardt (both $2,500), respectively.

As always, disclosed figures do not take into account any taxes, license fees or other deductions which may be taken from a fighter’s purse, nor do they include any discretionary “locker room” bonuses which may be issued by a promoter.
