Frankie Edgar will not be testing free agent waters anytime soon.

According to ESPN, the former lightweight champion recently signed a multi-fight contract with the UFC ahead of his bantamweight debut against Pedro Munhoz on July 15. Edgar would have entered the bout on the last fight of his previous deal.

On Monday evening, Munhoz was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a positive COVID-19 test. The UFC was still trying to convince Edgar to remain on the card against a replacement opponent.

Edgar discussed his pending free agency earlier this year and expressed a desire to finish his career with the UFC. Now, it appears as though he’ll get that opportunity.

“Money talks,” Edgar said on the “JRE MMA Show” in January. “But I mean, honestly, if I was being straight up, where would I want to finish my career? I do want to finish in the UFC. I got in the UFC at 5-0. I pretty much grew up here. It’d be nice to finish it here, but everything has to make sense.”

“The Answer” has been with the Las Vegas-based promotion since 2007, when he earned a unanimous decision triumph over Tyson Griffin in his debut at UFC 67. The Toms River, N.J., native made three successful defenses as 155-pound king before dropping to featherweight and challenging for UFC gold in that division on three different occasions.

Edgar is coming off a first-round TKO loss to Chan Sung Jung at 145 pounds at UFC Fight Night 165 this past December. The 38-year-old has defeated the likes of Cub Swanson, Yair Rodriguez, Jeremy Stephens, Chad Mendes, Urijah Faber, Gray Maynard, B.J. Penn, Sean Sherk and Jim Miller during his promotional tenure.
