Four-Time UFC Veteran Akbarh Arreola Retires from MMA at Age 33

Thirty-five fight veteran Akbarh Arreola has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts at 33 years old.

"I wanted to take this opportunity to announce that out of respect for my family, my physical integrity and the sport, I retire,” Arreola wrote on Facebook. “To my fortune and I'm sure for many of you, today we have many compatriots and friends dedicated 100 percent to the sport and can continue to compete at the highest level that is required. Many thanks to all the people who supported me from the beginning and all those who with their good vibes always drew a smile on my face. "

A native of Tijuana, Mexico, Arreola exits the sport with a 23-11-1 career mark, with 17 victories via submission and five by knockout. He last competed at Pancrase 277 on April 24, losing to Kazuki Tokudome via technical knockout 4:59 into the first round.

Over the course of a professional career that began in 2002, “El Caballero” fought the likes of Mac Danzig, Antonio McKee, Toby Imada and Gabe Ruediger on the Mexican regional MMA circuit. He made his Octagon debut at UFC on Fox 12 in July 2014, dropping a unanimous decision to Yves Edwards. Arreola went 1-3 during his tenure with the Las Vegas-based promotion, notching a submission victory against Yves Edwards at UFC Fight Night in Austin in November 2014.
