Fabio Cherant Captures Vacant Light Heavyweight Title in LFA 99 Main Event

The Legacy Fighting Alliance light heavyweight title is vacant no more as Myron Dennis and Fabio Cherant clashed for gold in the main event of LFA 99.

The first round saw the striking of Cherant (7-1) shine as he landed blistering punches. Showing versatility, "The Water Buffalo" grappled with Dennis (18-8) and showed off his kicking game in Round 2. However, Cherant slowed down in the third frame, which allowed "Lightskin Dynamite" to land some damaging shots of his own. Cherant opened the championship rounds with a flying knee and dug deep to outstrike his opponent over the last 10 minutes. After five rounds of action, the judges awarded Cherant the vacant light heavyweight title with scores of 49-46, 48-47 and 48-47. The new champion dedicated his victory to his late mother, who passed away earlier this year.

The lightweight co-main event saw Ago Huskic go up against Brant Moore, who came in 3.2 pounds heavy for the bout. Both men started the fight looking to land kicks, but Moore (9-1) took the fight to the ground after Huskic (8-4) got the better of the initial striking exchanges. This trend continued throughout the fight as Moore kept Huskic on his back. After three rounds, all three judges saw the bout in Moore's favor with scores of 30-26, 30-27 and 29-28.

In featherweight action, Fernando Padilla went up against Nate Togbah Richardson. Early on, Padilla (12-4) was able to land damaging uppercuts and easily outlanded Richardson (8-3) on the feet. Richardson surged late after landing several leg kicks that limited the movement of his opponent. Ultimately, the judges saw the fight in Padilla's favor via split decision with scores of 28-29, 29-28 and 29-28.

Middleweight prospect Cody Brundage bounced back from his first career defeat by submitting Joseph Kropschot. While the first two rounds were competitive, Brundage (6-1) quickly locked in an arm triangle during the third frame. Kropschot (4-2) tapped just 39 seconds into Round 3.

In women's flyweight action, Valerie Soto took on Flore Hani, who missed weight by 3.4 pounds. This tightly-contested bout was the first fight of the night to go to a decision. After three rounds, the judges preferred the works of Hani (3-1), who was able to outpower Soto (3-3), and pick up scores of 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27.

Darian Weeks was a sizable favorite over Craig Fairley and proved exactly why the odds were so lopsided in their welterweight clash. Weeks (5-0) completely overwhelmed Fairley (3-5), dropping him multiple times. In the end, some vicious hammerfists forced the ref to call off the fight at 1:51 of Round 2. Fairley left his gloves inside the cage after the loss.

The main card kicked off with heavyweight action as Trevor Wallace took on Cesar Gutierrez. Both men came out throwing bombs, but it was Wallace (4-0) that came out on top. A big left hook put Gutierrez (2-3) on the floor and some ground-and-pound finished the fight at just 58 seconds into Round 1.

In preliminary action, Gerrica Trias finished Kawehi Granito-Wallace with punches at 0:56 of the third frame of their women's flyweight bout, and Manuel Medina submitted fellow flyweight Chancey Wilson with a triangle choke at 1:09 of Round 1.
