Ex-Kickboxing Star Gokhan Saki Out of Sophomore Octagon Appearance at UFC 219

Gokhan Saki will not be making his second Octagon foray at UFC 219.

The former Glory and K-1 kickboxing world champion has withdrawn from a scheduled light heavyweight clash with Khalil Rountree for undisclosed reasons. As a result, the promotion has confirmed that Rountree will remain on the card against Michal Oleksiejczuk.

UFC 219 takes place on Dec. 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and features a women’s featherweight title bout pitting reigning champion Cristiane Justino against Holly Holm. The evening’s main card is available on pay-per-view, with prelims likely airing on Fox Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Saki was successful in his Octagon debut, as he scored a knockout of Henrique da Silva 4:45 into the opening stanza at UFC Fight Night 117 on Sept. 22. “The Rebel” compiled an 83-12 mark in the kickboxing realm that included wins over the likes of Tyrone Spong, Daniel Ghita, Melvin Manhoef and Ray Sefo.

Rountree is coming off back-to-back first-round knockouts of Paul Craig and Daniel Jolly in his last two UFC appearances. The 22-year-old Oleksiejczuk enters his promotional debut on a nine-fight winning streak and owns a 12-2 professional mark overall.
