Elias Theodorou On UFC Ottawa Loss: You Either Win Or You Learn

Elias Theodorou snapped a three-fight winning streak on Saturday night, dropping a unanimous decision to Derek Brunson in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 151 in Ottawa.

The former “The Ultimate Fighter Nations” winner and resident of Ontario came into the fight confident of victory in front of his home fans and seemed to be getting the better of his opponent until the final round. However, “Spartan” was booed on a number of occasions throughout the fight due to a perceived lack of engagement, and Brunson put his stamp on the fight authoritatively with a dominant third round.

On Sunday, Theodorou took to his Instagram account and said the following on his defeat: “You either win or you learn. Wasn’t my night tonight, but honored to have my team by my side in victory and defeat. We’ll be back with much to learn. Nothing but respect to Derek, he was the better man tonight.”

Theodorou’s loss puts the 30-year old Canadian’s aspirations of a future title shot on hold with his record now falling to 17-3. Meanwhile, the win puts a stop to a two-fight skid for Brunson, ensures he remains ranked in the Top 10 in the 185-pound division and lines him up for a likely matchup with another ranked middleweight in his next outing.
