Dodson-Yamaguchi Ticketed for TPF 9
Mike Whitman Jan 28, 2011
Another battle of world-ranked flyweights will go down at Tachi
Palace Fights 9 on May 5 at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino
in Lemoore, Calif., as Greg Jackson product John Dodson
(Pictured) takes on Japanese import Mamoru
Yamaguchi.
Sherdog.com on Friday learned of the matchup from sources close to the event.
Known for his inventive techniques in the cage, Dodson has won four
of his last five contests. “The Magician” began his career in 2004
and is a veteran of King of the Cage competition. Most recently,
the 26-year-old bested John Moraga
at Nemesis Fighting “Global Invasion” in December. The Jackson’s
Mixed Martial Arts representative has finished more than half of
his 11 career victims by either knockout or submission and has
never been finished as a professional.
Yamaguchi is a veteran of Vale Tudo Japan and King of the Cage, but the flyweight has competed primarily in Shooto since beginning his career in 1999. In 2000, the Shooting Gym Yokohama product won Shooto’s 132-pound title, but he lost the belt in just his second title defense. Two years after losing the promotion’s featherweight strap, Yamaguchi earned Shooto’s 123-pound bantamweight crown, losing that title three years later to Shinichi Kojima in 2006. Yamaguchi is currently the King of the Cage 125-pound champion, winning the crown a year ago and defending the belt once in August.
