Derek Brunson Slated To Fight Ian Heinisch at UFC 241

A new middleweight contest has been added to the upcoming UFC 241 event, as Derek Brunson will lock horns with Ian Heinisch.

Following an initial report on Friday by MyMMANews.com, sources for Sherdog have confirmed the fight.

After suffering back-to-back defeats at the hands of Ronaldo Souza and Israel Adesanya, Brunson (19-7) bounced back with a unanimous decision victory over former middleweight contender Elias Theodorou. The 35-year-old fighter is now looking to find some continuity in his record, and accepted the fight after Heinisch called him out.

Heinisch (13-1) earned himself a UFC contract thanks to a highlight-reel knockout at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. The Legacy Fighting Alliance veteran has impressed the fans with consecutive unanimous decision verdicts over Brazilians Cezar Ferreira and Antonio Carlos Jr. A victory over Brunson could take "The Hurricane" into the top echelon of the 185-pound division.

UFC 241 will go down at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on August 17. The main event will see UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier putting his belt on the line in a rematch against former champ Stipe Miocic. Also featured on the card will be Nate Diaz making his return in the welterweight division against Anthony Pettis.
