Kevin Syler (156) vs. Kenneth Cross (155.5)

Round 1

They touch gloves and the lightweight clash is underway. Cross shoves Syler to the ground after a kick and lets his foe right back up. Cross lands a left hand and shoots for a takedown, but Syler defends well. Cross secures a body lock and pushes Syler into the fence. They separate and Cross lands a body kick followed by a left to the body. They tie up and Syler trips his man to the mat. Cross scrambles up and Syler works to try and take the back against the fence. They battle for wrist control and Syler briefly trips Cross. They get back up and Cross dumps Syler over the top and dives in with a big left hand. Now it’s Cross in dominant position near the cage. Cross maintains a body lock as Syler battles to get back up. Syler sees a guillotine and pulls guard, but Cross is able to pop his head free in short order. Now it’s Cross working inside Syler’s guard. Cross lands some short punches to the ribs as the action has slowed here. As time winds down, Cross finishes up with a big elbow and heavy punches.

Round 2

Cross (right) won but didn't impress.
Cross opens with a pair of leg kicks. Cross lands a big body kick and narrowly evades a right hand counter from Syler. Another body kick lands but Syler counters with a left hook. Cross explodes for a double-leg takedown, but Syler uses a whizzer to defend and they separate. Syler pulls guard for a guillotine near the fence. It’s tighter than the one in the first round, but again, Cross is able to free himself. Now it’s Cross in top position, looking to stay heavy as Syler sits up against the fence. Syler posts with his arms and eats some lefts to the head from Cross. Cross powers Syler back down and flattens his adversary out. Now he’s mounted Syler, dropping elbows and punches until Syler rolls to his back. Syler covers up as Cross postures up and looks for an opening. Syler is able to reverse and stand, where he drops back for an ankle lock with 1:00 remaining. Syler looks to torque the hold, but Cross maintains his composure and frees himself. Cross is on top and in half guard, and that’s where he’ll end the frame.

Round 3

Syler rushes across the cage with a flying knee, but Cross sidesteps it without issue. Cross changes leves and shoves Syler into the cage. Cross is looking for a single-leg, and Syler defends momentarily before his opponent takes top position. Syler frames a kimura and the lightweights are scrambling on the canvas. Cross escapes the position and is back on top in half guard. Syler works his way up, but Cross remains attached to him. Cross lands some knees to the thigh before dragging Syler back down. Cross passes to side control, and he is still heavy on top, although he isn’t offering much in the way of offense. Syler recovers full guard. Cross stands momentarily and then Syler takes his foe’s back in a scramble. Syler is too high, though, and he slides off the back. They’re back up and trading with less than a minute to go. Syler ducks under a left from Cross and executes a double-leg. Cross is exhausted as Syler moves to take the back. Syler lands some elbows and punches to the side of the head as time expires.

Josh Parisian (265.5) vs. Chad Johnson (215)

Parisian takes the center of the cage and absorbs an inside leg kick. Parisian lands a heavy leg kick of his own. Another low kick from Parisian makes Johnson stumble. Johnson lands a glancing overhand right. Parisian with another heavy leg kick, and Johnson returns with one of his own. Johnson sticks a jab and angles out. Johnson evades a combination and connects with a left hook. A jab gets through Parisian’s guard, and Johnson pressures with a combination. Johnson concludes the sequence with a takedown attempt, but the larger Parisian defends against the fence. Parisian lands a big knee to the chin on the break and Johnson stumbles backward, falling to the canvas. Parisian follows his man down and sets up in side control. He gives up on a kimura and steps over to mount. Parisian postures up and unloads with left and right hands. Big shots are raining down, and referee Chris Tognoni orders Johnson to fight back. Johnson’s arms are flailing, but too many punches are getting through, and finally, Tognoni has seen enough.

Orion Cosce (170.5) vs. Matt Dixon (170.5)

Round 1

Dixon quickly closes the distance and shoves Cosce into the fence. Cosce battles to defend, but Dixon changes levels and dumps Cosce down. Cosce is back up immediately, and they eventually separate from the clinch. Both fighters are cautious at range. Dixon steps forward and lands a jab. Cosce pressures and Dixon changes levels for a beautifully-timed double leg. Cosce slides to the fence and scrambles up, where he eats a combination from Dixon. They clinch, and this time it’s Cosce pushing Dixon into the cage. Cosce lands a knee to the body on the break. Cosce connects with a big left hand before Dixon shoves the Team Alpha Male product back into the fence. Cosce reverses, and the welterweights separate. A left hook-right hand combination lands for Dixon, who follows with a level change and a takedown. Cosce snags a guillotine on the way down, but Dixon escapes as the horn sounds.

Cosce (left) picked up a late finish.
Cosce lands an inside leg kick and Dixon changes stance. Cosce stuffs an ensuing takedown try and they’re quickly back at range. Dixon moves forward with a multi-punch combination. They both land in the pocket, as Cosce ups the pressure. Dixon forces the clinch, but they quickly separate. A two-punch combination lands clean for Dixon, but Cosce responds with a heavy left. Cosce lands a kick to the cup and Dixon is given a moment to recover. The action resumes with 3:15 to go. Dixon lands a body kick, but Cosce responds with a damaging inside low kick. Dixon shoots for a takedown, and Cosce defends against the cage. Dixon lowers his level for the takedown, but Cosce denies it. Cosce just misses on a spinning back elbow on the break, and they separate, with Dixon landing a body kick. Dixon ducks under a spinning backfist and Cosce sprawls on a takedown. Dixon lands a combination before clinching. Cosce with a knee to the body before they separate. Cosce stuffs another takedown against the fence. Cosce lands some punches to the side of Dixon’s head with his back to the fence. They separate and Dixon lands a couple shots before the horn.

Round 3

Cosce lands a right hook in close quarters and pressures forward. Cosce is forcing the issue and lands a right hand. Dixon ties his opponent up and shoves him into the cage. Cosce reverses and lands a knee to the body. Now Cosce gets in deep on a double leg and dumps Dixon on the mat. From half guard, Cosce lands some ground-and-pound. Dixon appears to be gassed with Cosce in a dominant position. Cosce passes to full mount and postures up. Dixon scrambles and recovers half guard after Cosce briefly threatens with an arm triangle. Cosce ties up Dixon’s arm and lands some heavy shots to the head. Dixon attempts to buck Cosce off him, but it’s to no avail. Cosce unloads with more right hands to the head. Cosce is now in side control, and he’s looking for a mounted crucifix. He’s got it, and Dixon is eating punches and elbows to the face. Cosce continues to pound away with punches and elbows on his defenseless foe, and the bout is waved off by Marc Goddard in the waning moments of the round.

Cheyanne Buys (115.5) vs. Hilarie Rose (115.5)

Round 1

The strawweights trade furiously in the pocket, then move back to range. Rose locks up an armbar and Buys slams her way out of it. Rose closes the distance with a combination and forces the clinch. Buys reverses it and defends a trip takedown from Rose, reversing into top position. Buys stands and drops a big left. She also lands a body kick after Rose returns to her feet. Rose eats a punch on her way into the clinch. Rose is able to separate. Buys stings Rose with a clean combination, and she remains on the offensive. Buys sprawls on a takedown, and moves into half guard. Buys looks to advance while utilizing heavy shoulder pressure. Rose uses her guard to create space. Buys orders her to her feet nad strings together a solid combination to end the round.

Round 2

Buys marches forward and both land in close quarters. Rose lands a leg kick but Buys answers with a combination. Buys lands a jumping switch kick to the body and then locks up Rose in the clinch. Rose turns Buys and lands a solid elbow to the head. Buys quickly reverses the position again as the clinch battle continues. Rose is bleeding from a cut near her right eyebrow. Buys briefly separates and flurries before clinching up again. Buys is able to win this battle as the stronger fighter. Rose lands a couple short elbows to the side of the head, turns Buys and follows up with a knee to the head. They separate and trade kicks at range. Buys lands a combination followed by a knee to the body. Buys counters a kick with a right hand. A nice one-two backs up Rose. Buys is getting the better of most exchanges now. A big overhand right counter connects for Buys, who then stuffs an ensuing takedown attempt. Rose shoves Buys into the fence, but Buys is able to turn and land a knee. They end up on the ground with Buys on Rose’s back. Rose eats ground-and-pound until the horn.

Round 3

Buys (left) was one step ahead of Rose.
Buys immediately lands a one-two as she takes the role of aggressor. Buys counters a kick with a jab. Rose misses a big right hand. Buys goes body-head with a punching flurry before forcing the clinch. Buys lands a knee to the body as she continues to overpower Rose in this position. They separate and Buys comes back with a jab. Moments later, Buys snaps Rose’s head back with a jab. They clinch and Buys spins around to Rose’s back from a standing position. Rose escapes but her back is against the fence again. Buys chips away with knees, then lands a hard elbow on the break. Rose is reeling, and Buys tees off with punches to the head. Rose shoots for a takedown and Buys sprawls well. Buys takes her opponent’s back, but she doesn’t have both hooks in. Rose is fighting to control the wrists, but Buys remains attached to her back. Rose lands a sneaky back elbow, but it can’t break Buys’ grasp. Buys tees off with punches in close as the round ticks down. She urges Rose forward and they trade wildly before the horn.

Victor Reyna (170.5) vs. Louis Cosce (170)

Round 1

Cosce (right) punched his ticket to the UFC.
Cosce immediately comes out throwing heavy punches, but Reyna slows it down with a clinch. They separate and now Cosce is attacking the body with kicks. Cosce pressures and lands a left hook. Cosce steps in with on overhand left that lands clean on the chin. Reyna tumbles to the canvas on all fours and Cosce follows him to the floor, where he unleashes a series of unanswered punches to the side of the head. Reyna can do nothing but cover up from the turtled position, and referee Chris Tognoni steps in on his behalf to wave off the fight.
