Conor McGregor has not fought since UFC 229 ,where he lost by submission to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Since then, he has been clamoring for a rematch, but there has been nothing concrete regarding his Octagon return.

“I think he’ll be back either this year or early next year,” White said to TMZ Sports. “We’ll see how this whole thing plays out in September.”

Of course, Sept. 7 is the lightweight title fight between Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi. White makes it very clear that McGregor will not be fighting the winner next.

“No, but it’ll shake a lot of things up whoever wins that fight” he said.

Another potential foe who recently threw his name into the McGregor sweepstakes is welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal, who is coming off back-to-back first-round knockouts of Darren Till and Ben Askren. White is not a fan of seeing McGregor compete at 170 pounds, despite the former two-division champion’s experience in two bouts against Nate Diaz at welterweight.

“No. Hell no,” White said about a McGregor vs. Masvidal fight. “Masvidal’s too big for Conor.

“Yeah [he fought at welterweight], but he shouldn’t have,” White added. “I hated when he did it. Not only did I hate that he did it once, I hated that he did it twice. He doesn’t belong at that weight.”
