Maycee Barber continues her meteoric rise in mixed martial arts with yet another dominant finish in her women’s flyweight bout against Gillian Robertson to open the main card at UFC on ESPN 6.
It didn’t take long for “The Future” to get to work as she
unleashed a barrage of shots on her opponent before the referee
intervened and stopped the fight at just over three minute
mark.
The win kept the promising 21-year-old with a perfect professional record and she moved to 8-0, which includes seven finishes.
Barber is not short on confidence and self-belief, even stating that she could beat current women’s champions Weili Zhang and Valentina Shevchenko.
Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White was full of praise for Barber after her latest first-round stoppage and told the media that Barber’s appetite for the fight game has really impressed him (via MMAFighting.com).
“She’s a gangster; this girl. I love everything about this girl,” White said about Barber at the post-fight press conference. “You should see the crazy texts she sends me like all the time, including tonight. As soon as the fight was over she started texting me and she wants to fight everybody and ‘I told you, I told you I was going to do this.’
“I love her attitude. I love how bad she wants to be a world champion. I love how she finishes fights. She fought a very tough girl tonight and she stopped her. She looked incredible. She’s fun and it’s going to be fun for all of us and the fans to watch her grow over the next couple years.”
