Conor McGregor Coach Optimistic for International Fight Week Return, Justin Gaethje Bout
The entire world is in a state of uncertainty as further measures are taken to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

With that in mind, the possibility exists that more cancellations could be on the horizon for the Las Vegas-based promotion. Owen Roddy, Conor McGregor’s striking coach, believes that the next Octagon appearance for the Irish superstar would provide a needed boost for the UFC and its fans.
Speaking recently with ESPN, Roddy said
the plan is for McGregor to return to action on the UFC’s July 11
International Fight Week card.
“Most definitely. That’s the plan hopefully,” Roddy said. “Bring the UFC back to life as well with all these shows being canceled and stuff like that, I think a fight on July 11 would bring the UFC back to life and get everybody back on track. So my fingers are crossed and I’m sure the rest of the world fingers are crossed for that fight.”
McGregor has been linked to a matchup with former World Series of Fighting champion Justin Gaethje in recent months. While nothing is set in stone at this point, Roddy is on board with that notion.
“There is a lot of talk about Gaethje,” Roddy said. “ I mean, he’s an exciting fighter, Gaethje. I would like to see it, I’m sure you’d like to see it, and I’m sure the rest of the world would like to see it. So yeah, potentially that, but to be honest, anyone. I know Conor is raring to go and everyone will be raring to go by the time July comes around.”
McGregor returned from a lengthy hiatus at UFC 246 in January, when he defeated Donald Cerrone via technical knockout in 40 seconds. It was his first Octagon appearance since a submission loss to reigning 155-pound champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018.
