The former UFC two-division champion was charged with felony strong-armed robbery and criminal mischief by Miami police. McGregor is currently being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $12,500 bond.

According to an arrest report, McGregor and the fan were walking out of the LIV nightclub inside the Fointainebleau Miami Beach Hotel around 5 a.m. When the fan attempted to take a photo of the fighter with his cell phone, McGregor allegedly “slapped” the device out of his hand and stomped on it several times. McGregor then picked up the $1,000 phone and walked away with it.

“Last evening Conor McGregor was involved in a minor altercation over a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement,” wrote McGregor’s attorney, Samuel Rabin, in a statement released to MMAFighting.com. “Mr. McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation.”

The Irish superstar is currently serving a six-month suspension for his role in a post-fight melee following the UFC 229 main event in Las Vegas on Oct. 6. The Dublin native will be eligible to return to UFC competition in April once the sanction is completed.

Prior to that, the “Notorious” one pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct last year for throwing a dolly through a bus window carrying UFC fighters and employees at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. in April 2018. McGregor initially faced multiple charges, including felony criminal mischief, for his role in the incident before accepting a plea agreement.

McGregor’s return to the Octagon at UFC 229 was his first MMA bout in nearly two years. The SBG Ireland representative was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov in the fourth round of the evening’s headliner. McGregor had recently been linked to a bout against Donald Cerrone, but the Irishman reportedly balked at the fight upon learning that it would be a co-main event on its proposed card.

Update: McGregor has been released on bond after 10 p.m. local time. Video of the fighter leaving jail can be viewed below.
