Cody Garbrandt, Raphael Assuncao Agree to Meet at UFC Columbus in March

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is quickly building its return to Columbus, Ohio, in March.

ESPN reported on Friday that Raphael Assuncao (27-7) has agreed to face off with former champ Cody Garbrandt (11-3) at bantamweight on the March 28 card in Columbus. The event will be held at the Nationwide Arena, and it will be headlined by a heavyweight rumble between Francis Ngannou and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

Assuncao has lost his last two, including a first-round guillotine choke submission defeat to former title challenger Marlon Moraes, and most recently, a decision against Cory Sandhagen in August. Currently the #5 ranked bantamweight on the UFC rankings and #4 for Sherdog's official rankings, Assuncao holds wins over major names in the division including T.J. Dillashaw, Aljamain Sterling, Pedro Munhoz and Moraes.

#8 ranked Garbrandt -- 14 on the Sherdog rankings -- has hit a rough patch since capturing the title from Dominick Cruz in 2016, losing his last three by knockout within two rounds. A thrilling first bout against Dillashaw where both fighters had their moments led to a rematch the following year, and Dillashaw won that one as well by knockout. Attempting to bounce back against Munhoz in March, Munhoz dispatched "No Love" in less than five minutes. Prior to these losses, Garbrandt was undefeated as a professional, with nine of his 11 wins coming by knockout.
