Charles Oliveira Suspended 60 Days for Jumping Over Cage After UFC 210 Victory

Charles Oliveira’s jubilation following a successful return to the lightweight division at UFC 210 will keep him sidelined for a couple months.

Oliveira was suspended 60 days by the New York State Athletic Commission for jumping over the cage after defeating Will Brooks in a featured 155-pound contest at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, N.Y., on April 8. The NYSAC revealed the sanction to Sherdog.com on Wednesday.

After a stint at 145 pounds, “Do Bronx” looked to be in top form at lightweight. The Brazilian took Brooks down twice, and moved to the former Bellator champion’s back when he attempted to rise to his feet. From there, Oliveira secured a rear-naked choke and forced his opponent to tap out 2:30 into round one.

While Oliveira’s NYSAC-mandated suspension will last until June, it’s unclear if he will stay at lightweight for his next Octagon appearance.

“I have to talk to my team, but I want to stay at 145 pounds. It’s my division and I feel more comfortable,’ Oliveira said in a post-fight quote provided by the UFC. “I’ve had problems before and I didn’t make the weight, but right now I have a lot of professional guys behind me to help me that I didn’t have before. I want to get the belt at 145 pounds.”
