Former UFC fighter turned comedian Brendan Schaub caused a stir on social media by blasting the UFC’s women’s 115-pound division after fans questioned him on his prediction for the strawweight title fight last weekend between Jessica Andrade and Weili Zhang.
Zhang became the first Chinese champion in UFC history, finishing her powerful Brazilian opponent in just 42 seconds. The victory extended Zhang’s winning streak to 20 and she has not tasted defeat since her professional debut back in 2013.
However, Schaub expressed zero interest in the outcome of the fight and made it known during an edition of Showtime’s “Below The Belt” podcast and said he doesn’t have an interest in the entire strawweight division (via BJPenn.com).
“People are Tweeting me saying ‘Oh what’s up now Schaub, didn’t call Zhang over Jessica Andrade,’” he said. “I sure didn’t! Or in the [replies to the] post about my son [people were saying] ‘Oh where the f--- were you on Zhang vs. Andrade?’
“Dude, let me be super clear. Not only did I not watch it, I don’t give a f--- about women’s strawweight. I didn’t even watch it, and when someone told me [what happened] I said, ‘That’s cool man.’”
Schaub interviewed No. 3-ranked UFC strawweight Tatiana Suarez as part of his Food Truck Diaries series back in April.
