Bob Sapp Returns to MMA, Headlines Road FC 32 in China on July 2

Heavyweight veteran Bob Sapp will end his retirement from mixed martial arts this summer after nearly three years away from the sport.

Korean promoter Road Fighting Championship on Tuesday announced that Sapp will square off against China’s Aorigele in the main event of Road FC 32. The event takes place July 2 at the 20,000-seat Hunan International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hunan, China.

Sapp, 42, walked away from MMA in 2013 following a string of 12 consecutive losses, 11 of which came inside the first round. “The Beast” has remained active in the meantime, competing sporadically in kickboxing and professional wrestling, as well as working as a cage announcer and vice president of public relations for Road FC. At the time of his retirement, the former Pride FC and K-1 fighter claimed to have “well over $10 million,” which meant he no longer needed to fight for money.

Sapp’s opponent is a 21-year-old provincial sanda champion with less than two years of MMA experience under his belt. The “Heavyweight Supernova” advanced past the first round of Road FC’s recent openweight tournament but was stopped in April by Hong Man Choi via 96-second knockout.
