Josh San Diego vs. Joe Neal

Round 1

San Diego stalks his foe and eats a kick to the body. San Diego is aggressive throwing punches early and they briefly tie up against the fence. Neal lands a rear body kick. A straight left hand lands for Neal, who secures a takedown moments later. San Diego maintains full guard as the competitors move near the fence. Neal stands and drops a big right hand. San Diego wall walks and stands; Neal maintains a body lock, but San Diego is able to separate. Neal has a cut opened near his right eye. They trade near the fence, and San Diego lands a knee as Neal shoots. They clinch and San Diego lands a slashing elbow on the break. A jumping knee to the body lands for San Diego and Neal clinches against the fence. Neal attempts to change levels for a takedown, but San Diego defends well and breaks away. San Diego closes distance with another jumping knee and they clinch. A body kick lands for San Diego, and he dodges a counter combo from Neal. San Diego backs Neal into the fence, gets a single leg and drops some ground-and-pound before the horn.

Round 2

San Diego walks his man down and lands a two-punch combination. San Diego shoots for a takedown near the fence, but can’t get Neal down. They separate and San Diego backs Neal into the fence, landing a couple knees before securing a takedown. San Diego has his opponent’s back near the fence. Neal stands and breaks free. A left jab connects for Neal. The fighters trade low kicks, as the action has slowed. San Diego continues to stalk his foe, but he’s not landing much other than the occasional leg kick. Neal finds the range on a kick to the body. San Diego ups the pressure, lands a couple knees and they briefly tie up. Neal shoots and San Diego sprawls with 30 seconds left.

Round 3

San Diego pressures, landing a jab and a knee in an early exchange. San Diego with an inside leg kick, then closes the distance for a takedown. Neal defends and they break. San Diego goes back to the low kicks. A straight left lands for San Diego. A counter right lands for Neal. Neal counters a low kick with another right hand. San Diego wades forward and has his head snapped back by a right from Neal. San Diego changes levels and secures a takedown with 2:30 left. Neal quickly scrambles up, and he’s the one moving forward now. Neal gives San Diego pause with a one-two combination. Moments later, a straight right scores for Neal. San Diego has seen enough, as he dodges a right and gets a body-lock takedown near the fence. San Diego lands some moderate ground-and-pound before Neal works his way up. One minute left, and San Diego is bleeding profusely due to an earlier clash of heads. San Diego ducks under a Neal punch and gets a late takedown. Neal hustles up and the combatants trade before the bell sounds.

Round 1

Smitley comes out landing hard low kicks. Labiano catches a kick and dumps Smitley to the canvas. Smitley works his rubber guard, attempting to frame a submission. Labiano stands and powers out of an omaplata. Smitley rolls for a leg lock, while Labiano stands and defends. Labiano drops a series of undefended hammerfists as Smitley clings to the leg. Labiano drops more hammerfists. Smitley eats them and continues to smile at his foe. Labiano maintains control from top position, alternating punches and elbows on his foe. Smitley attempts to scramble free, but that only allows Labiano to unload with about 10 unanswered left hands to the side of the head. Smitley isn’t defending himself, and referee Mike Beltran steps in to call off the fight.

Amber Leibrock vs. Arlene Blencowe

Round 1

Leibrock using her reach to stand on the outside and throw long one-twos. Leibrock keeps Blencowe at bay with a front kick. Blencowe eludes Leibrock an dlands a short left hook. A knee to the body from Leibrock seems to stun Blencowe, and Leibrock rushes her foe near the fence. They trade knees in the clinch and Blencowe seems to have regained her bearings. A left jab lands for Leibrock. Blencowe lands a combination as Leibrock moves forward. Another combination lands for Blencowe. Blencowe catches a kick from her foe and just misses landing a counter knee. A body kick by Leibrock lands, and moments later she throws a kick upstairs that’s blocked. A counter from Blecowe backs her foe up. Leibrock eats another counter as the round winds down.

Round 2

Blencowe lands a punching combination in an early exchange. They tie up, and Blencowe lands a short right hand on the break. Leibrock punctuates a combo with a body kick. Blencowe answers a front kick with a right hand. Blencowe seems to have her opponent’s timing down and is consistently countering with success. Leibrock misses a kick and a counter right from Blencowe catches her off balance. Blencowe follows with a kick to the body when Leibrock stands. Blencowe continues to have success, both with counter left right hands and short left hooks. A two-piece combination connects for Blencowe. They tie up in the center of the cage and Leibrock is able to lands a hip toss with less than 30 seconds to go. Leibrock ends the round attempting to land punches standing with Blencowe on her back.

Round 3

Leibrock lands an early takedown, but Blencowe is able to scramble into top position. Leibrock attempts to control Blencowe’s posture form her back. Leibrock frames her legs for an armbar, but Blencowe picks her foe up and slams her hard to the canvas. Leibrock relents on the submission as her head appears to hit the canvas. Leibrock curls up and “Angerfist” lands about six hammerfists to seal the victory.

Cass Bell vs. Ty Costa

Round 1

Costa drops low for a single leg. Bell briefly defends against the fence before Costa dumps him to the canvas. Bell works his way up, but Costa has a rear body lock. Costa keeps the pressure on, and he’s elbow to slam his foe down again. Bell drops some elbows to the head of Costa. Bell stands, but Costa jumps on his back. He drops down and they clinch. The fighters trade briefly on the break. Costa ducks under a looping hook from Bell, but Bell is able to stay upright with the help of the cage. Costa fights for the takedown, eating some elbows to the side of the head in the process. An overhand left lands for Bell. But Costa is able to duck under a follow-up strike and land yet another takedown with about 30 seconds left. Bell battles back up, and they end the round tied up against the cage.

Round 2

Bell opens with an outside low kick. Costa grabs a single leg and shoves his foe into the fence. Costa puts Bell on his back at the base of the fence. Costa works to advance, throwing some short right hands. Bell is neutralizing him for the most part. Bell frames an armbar from his back. Costa keeps his hips low, attempting to defends. Bell briefly considers going belly down, but Costa stacks his foe against the fence. Costa tries a couple short slams to free himself, but it’s to no avail. Bell appears as though he’s going to transition to a kneebar, but he maintains a hold on the arm and leans back and extends the limb. Costa has no choice but to verbally submit.

Adam Piccolotti vs. James Terry

Round 1

Piccolotti lands an inside low kick. Terry finds the range on a counter left. Piccolotti comes forward with a jab-low kick combination. Piccolotti is mixing up his offense nicely, with punches and kicks. Terry, meanwhile, is throwing everything with full power. The combatants clinch against the fence, and Terry shoves Piccolotti away. They trade jabs, and then Piccolotti lands a hard right hand that has Terry shaking his head. Piccolotti jabs to the body and the head. A right counter followed by a body kick lands for Piccolotti. Terry sprawls on a takedown, but Piccolotti stays on the attack. Terry with an outside leg kick. A couple jabs connect for Terry. Piccolotti mixes up his punches and kicks before shooting for a takedown. Terry scrambles up instantly. Terry loads up on a right hand but just misses before the round expires.

Round 2

Terry is switching stances back and forth. Piccolotti lands a body kick followed by a pair of low kicks. An upperct from Piccolotti lands clean. Piccolotti is stalking Terry, and he snaps a couple jabs. Piccolotti’s jab is proving to be his most effective weapon thus far. Piccolotti is pressuring, following up his jab with a variety of offense. A left to the body followed by a jab upstairs lands for Piccolotti. Terry isn’t out of it yet, and he lands a big right hand. Terry sprawls on a takedown and looks ot set up a guillotine. Piccolotti frees himself and goes back to jabbing away on Terry, who is bleeding from the nose. Terry shucks off a takedown attempt. Piccolotti lands a couple more jabs and Terry answers with a right cross. Still, it’s Piccolotti who’s coming with volume and variety. Piccolotti comes forward, landing punches, kicks and a knee. Terry drops for a takedown near the fence, and he gets it with less than 30 seconds to go. Piccolotti executes a switch and ends the frame with a few short rights and a powerful knee to the face.

Round 3

They touch gloves and share an embrace before the final frame. Terry lands a jab early. Piccolotti stays active with his jab, walking Terry down. Piccolotti mixes up his strikes as Terry is holding his hands dangerously low. An uppercut-right hand combination lands for Terry. They clinch and Piccolotti smashes a knee down the middle. A left hook lands clean as Terry attempts to circle away. Piccolotti dodges a massive uppercut and blasts Terry with a knee. Terry is bloodied but still fighting. Piccolotti blends his jab with low kicks. Terry connects with a nice right hand, but he can’t match Piccolotti’s output. Piccolotti lands another knee to the face, catching Terry coming forward. Terry presses the action, but Piccolotti easily dodges the attacks of his foe. Piccolotti closes out the round with a late takedown.

Round 1

Bolanos takes the center of the cage, looking to walk Gutierrez down. A straight left for Gutierrez finds a home. An inside low kick lands for Bolanos. Gutierrez catches a kick and tries to take Bolanos down. Bolanos scrambles and lands a few hard punches. They tie up against the fence and Bolanos lands knees to the body before the fighters separate. Bolanos moves in to attack and Gutierrez answers with a pair of counter left hands. Guitierrez partially blocks a head kick by Bolanos. Bolanos closes distance behind a body kick then backs away after a short clinch. They tie up in the center of the cage, and Bolanos shoves his foe into the fence. Gutierrez attacks and Bolanos tosses his man to the canvas. Golanos smiles at his opponent and lets him back up. They clinch and Gutierrez lands a knee before they separate. Bolanos gets a double leg takedown late in the period, stands back up and just misses on a head kick. Gutierrez answers with a left hand before the bell.

Round 2

Bolanos just misses on a straight right hand. An inside low kick lands for Bolanos, who follows up with a glancing high kick upstairs. Bolanos ducks under a Gutierrez punch and lands a takedown. Bolanos lands a couple punches on his grounded foe before letting him up. Moments later, a left hand behind the ear drops Gutierrez and Bolanos pounces in a hurry, blasting his dazed adversary with punches. Gutierrez is on all fours in the turtled position, and Bolanos begins to sneak punches underneath his opponent’s arm. The blows are taking their toll now, and referee Mike Beltran has seen enough.

Round 1

Melendez snaps on outside leg kick. Melendez lands a kick to the body followed by a right hand. Melendez connects with a front kick, snapping Zimmerman’s head back. Melendez closes distance and gets a takedown. Melendez creates space from half guard and lands a right hand. The wife of Gilbert Melendez stands and slams Zimmerman on her back. Zimmerman is hanging on for dear life. She continues to cling to Melendez, who stands and puts her on her back. Melendez creates space to land an elbow. Zimmerman moves her legs into position for a triangle from the bottom. Melendez stacks her foe, but Zimmerman lands hammerfists from the bottom. Zimmerman goes belly down and transitions to an armbar. Melendez uses her right knee to try and create some separation. The round ends in that position, as Melendez survives.

Round 2

Zimmerman eats a knee and a right hand before driving Melendez straight back into the cage. They continue to jockey for position near the fence, and Zimmerman maintains control. Zimmerman hunts for a single-leg takedown, but Melendez defends it well. Referee Herb Dean is urging the fighters to work. Zimmerman attempts to pull guard, but she can’t drag Melendez to the canvas. Melendez peels her foe off and lands a knee down the middle. They trade briefly before Zimmerman forces the clinch again. Melendez lands a couple knees to the gut with her back to the fence. Melendez turns her opponent and lands another knee. Zimmerman jumps up and tries to pull guard again. Melendez carries her and lands an elbow. Zimmerman drops to canvas, and Melendez lands a series of knees against the fence. Melendez lands about 10 knees before closing the round with a short elbow.

Round 3

Melendez lands a couple left hands as Zimmerman marches forward. Melendez lands a combination then circles away. Zimmerman shoots for a takedown against the fence about a minute in as Melendez defends. Zimmerman lifts and dumps Melendez on her back. Melendez is able to use the fence to reverse position, and she briefly postures up to land ground-and-pound. Melendez stands but eats an upkick before she is able to move away. Zimmerman stands and applies pressure. they trade punches, but Melendez is using head movement to counter effectively. Zimmerman drives her opponent into the fence. They jockey for position, but Herb Dean wants to see more action. Zimmerman maintains control, then pulls Melendez back into her guard with less than a minute to go. Melendez passes to half guard, sits up and drops a hammerfist. Zimmerman is content to hold on to Melendez as time expires.

Aaron Pico vs. Leandro Higo

Round 1

Pico looks to track down Higo as the Brazilian circles on the outside. Pico fires off a combination early. Pico backs Higo into the fence and attacks the body. Higo clinches and lands a knee to the body. They move away from the fence and Higo lands a nice combination of his own in space. Higo lands a hard low kick to the lead leg of Pico. Pico closes distance with punches, they briefly clinch and separate. They clinch near the fence and Higo lands an uppercut on the break. Higo loses his balance and Pico moves in rapidly, teeing off with punches to the body and head near the fence. Pico tags Higo with a couple clean one-two combinations. Moments later, Pico drops Higo with a right hand over the top that lands on the chin and and he swarms with punches on the ground. Higo looks out of it as he absorbs a series of powerful blows, but somehow works his way up. Pico continues to unload with punches near the fence. Higo fires back briefly and Pico digs to the body. Pico is still tagging his opponent and Higo circles away, stumbles and falls to the canvas. Pico moves in and lands a few more punches before referee Mark Smith moves in to mercifully end the beating.

Bellator MMA Welterweight GP:
Andrey Koreshkov vs. Douglas Lima

Round 1

Lima immediately leads with a kick to the body, but it’s blocked. A second body kick lands. Koreshkov answers to a spinning back kick to the gut that sends Lima back into the fence. They’re back in the center of the cage. They’re trading low kicks before Koreshkov shoots a takedown. The Russian tries to lift Lima, but the Brazilian keeps his feet. Lima continues to show impressive balance. He turns Koreshkov into the fence and lands some knees to the body. Koreshkov looks for a trip but Lima hangs on and pushes his foe back into the fence. Koreshkov regains control, as he pushes Lima into the fence. He can’t drag the Brazilian down, however. Koreshkov continues to grind away, drawing boos from the crowd in San Jose. Koreshkov fires an elbow upstairs. We’re down to a minute to go, and the welterweights continue to jockey for position. Koreshkov is landing periodic knees inside. They separate briefly, but Koreshkov quickly changes levels. Lima reverses a takedown just before the bell.

Round 2

Back in the center of the cage, Lima lands a body kick. Lima goes high with a kick, but it’s blocked. Koreshkov lands a body kick of his own. Koreshkov changes levels for a single-leg, but Lima defends and pushes his foe into the fence. Lima lands a right hand on the exit. Another body kick lands for Lima, and Koreshkov responds in kind. It’s been a slow-paced round so far. Lima lands a right hand to the body. The Brazilian misses an uppercut but clips him with a left hook. Lima is slowly but surely chipping away with kicks to the legs and body. Koreshkov forces the clinch and shoves Lima into the fence. Koreshkov is working, but he can’t get his opponent down to the mat. Lima lands a right hand on the break and Koreshkov just misses a spinning kick before the bell.

Round 3

Referee Josh Rosenthal incorrectly informs the fighters that this is the last round. Lima goes back to work with low kicks early. Lima trips after throwing a low kick, and Koreshkov capitalizes by clinching his foe against the fence. Lima turns his man around. They continue to jockey for position, as Koreshkov looks to connect his hands for a takedown. Lima ducks under a left hand from Koreshkov, then dodges a spinning back fist. Lima lands a low kick, then a body kick. Again Lima goes with a body kick, low kick pattern and both land with authority. Another low kick connects for Lima, as he circles away to get his back off the cage. They trade kicks, and Koreshkov switches stances after absorbing another low kick. Lima sprawls on a takedown in the center of the cage. He controls Koreshkov’s wrists, the fighters stand and Lima lands a knee to the midsection. With 30 seconds left, Koreshkov follows a left hand to the body with a takedown try. Lima defends as the round draws to a close.

Round 4

Lima is chopping away at Koreshkov’s legs right off the bat. A jab lands for the Brazilian and he follows with a hook to the body. Lima looks composed and he lands a kick just below Koreshkov’s knee. An accidental kick to the groin from Lima prompts a halt in the action. Koreshkov recovers and the action resumes. Lima goes up high with a kick but Koreshkov is able to block it. Koreshkov changes levels, but Lima defends and lands a knee. Lima pushes Koreshkov into the fence, landing knees to the thigh, foot stomps and a couple punches upstairs. Koreshkov is able to reverse position, and he drives for the takedown once again. Again, Lima defends well as boos come from the crowd. Lima lands a short elbow as they separate. Koreshkov throws a knee, Lima sidesteps it and responds with a knee of his own. A straight right hand from Lima appears to stun Koreshkov in the waning seconds, and “The Phenom” attacks with punches before the bell.

Round 5

Lima presses forward with a front kick to the gut. Koreshkov blocks a high kick. Lima catches Koreshkov ducking with a knee. Koreshkov moving backward now, and Lima lands a right hand near the fence. He continues to stalk the Russian, landing another punching combination. A one-two finds a home for Lima. Koreshkov drops low for a takedown. Lima stuffs it and drops a series of right hands, working to his opponent’s back. Lima transitions from a hip ride to full back control with both hooks in. Just like that, Lima slides his arm under Koreshkov’s chin and the choke is tight. Koreshkov hangs on as long as he can before going unconscious. Lima will advance to the next round of the welterweight grand prix.

Quinton Jackson vs. Wanderlei Silva

Round 1

Jackson is urging Silva forward as soon as the bell sounds. Silva looks cautious, pumping his jab. They move in close quarters, and Silva throws a couple winging shots, which Rampage evades. They trade in the pocket, and Jackson appears to tag the Brazilian. They clinch against the fence and Silva lnasd a knee on the exit. A left hook connects for Rampage. A high kick followed by a right hand upstairs gets through for Silva. They’re swinging wildly in exchanges, even if not a lot is landing. Silva follows a jab with a windmilling overhand right. Jackson closes the distance and ties up Silva for a moment. They separate with a minute to go. A front kick from Silva prompts Jackson to close the gap, where he lands a knee before shoving his foe into the fence. They swing wildly near the fence, but Jackson appears to land the most significant blow. Silva circles away, and Jackson urges him to meet him in the center of the cage before the round ends.

Round 2

Silva lands an outside low kick. Jackson lands a jab, then avoids Silva’s counter. They swing wildly against the fence, with both men landing shots. They encounter ends and they return to the center of the cage. Jackson lands a left hook but misses a right over the top. An overhand right by Silva is blocked. A big right hand over the top from Rampage appears to stun Silva. They clinch against the fence, and Jackson lands a knee. Rampage lands a couple uppercuts and a knee before Silva circles out of danger. They slug it out again near the fence before Jackson ties up Silva and lands a knee. Silva is taking deep breaths with his back to the fence. Jackson lands a couple right uppercuts on the inside, then steps back as Silva starts winging punches. Jackson sticks a jab and Silva circles away. Jackson stalks Silva near the fence, then puts “The Axe Murderer” on his seat with a massive right hand to the chin. A seated Silva tries to cover up as Jackson blasts him with punches. Referee Mike Beltran has seen enough, and he steps in to intervene on Silva’s behalf. The series between Jackson and Silva is now tied 2-2.

Gegard Mousasi vs. Rory MacDonald

Round 1

Mousasi is establishing his jab early, staying out of MacDonald’s range. A straight right from Mousasi tags MacDonald. A jab lands clean for Mousasi. MacDonald lands a left hand followed by an outside low kick. MacDonald lands an overhand right, and Mousasi answers moments later with a jab. A nice hook to the body connects for “The Red King,” but Mousasi continues to jab away. Mousasi blocks a head kick upstairs. A straight right snaps MacDonald’s head back. Mousasi jabs and then sidesteps a takedown try. Mousasi mixes up his attacks, throwing jabs, right hands and low kicks as the round expires.

Round 2

MacDonald threatens with a takedown but eats a right hand. Mousasi is back to firing off laser quick jabs. MacDonald goes for an unorthodox takedown, rolling underneath his foe, but that only allows Mousasi to take top position and land ground-and-pound. MacDonald is bleeding from his nose now, as he attempts to neutralize Mousasi from his back. A couple of hard elbows rock the Canadian from above. MacDonald is active with his guard, but he isn’t preventing Mousasi from landing significant ground-and-pound. Mousasi transitions to full mount with about 2:00 remaining. MacDonald hangs on for dear life. MacDonald lets go and Mousasi postures up, alternating between vicious elbows and powerful punches. MacDonald can’t defend the barrage anymore, and Herb Dean steps in to save the welterweight champion from further damage. Mousasi will retain his middleweight crown, while MacDonald is expected to enter the welterweight grand prix next.
