Bellator 156 Weigh-in Results: Galvao, Dantas Cleared to Scrap

After one heck of a fight three years ago and their ballyhooed rematch already postponed, the world of MMA is finally on the eve of one of the most anticipated showdowns of the year. Reigning Bellator bantamweight champion Marcos Galvao will defend his title against Eduardo Dantas in the main event of Bellator 156 Friday night.

Finally, after the marquee had to be reshuffled several times due to fighters being injured and replaced, Thursday’s weigh-ins went off without a hitch, clearing the way for everybody to finally get down to business inside the cage.

Dantas is a former teammate of Galvao’s and while they are bitter rivals by any means, they also aren’t the closest of chums, either. To make matters more intriguing, the belt that Galvao now owns used to belong to Dantas, who conquered his former training partner via punches in the second at Bellator 89 to win the title. He defended his crown once before losing it to Joe Warren, who in turn lost it to Galvao, who doesn’t want anything more than to even the score with Dantas.

At the weigh-ins Thursday afternoon, Dantas was the first of the main event combatants to step onto the scale and “DuDu” nailed it. Dantas came in officially at 134.7 pounds, looking as ready as ever to reclaim his title. But his adversary looked equally on point as “Loro” clocked in at 135 pounds.

Co-main event fighters Chidi Njokuani and Thiago Jambo Goncalves will lock horns in a welterweight bout. “Chidi Bang Bang” tipped the scale at 170.8 pounds while Goncalves came in at 169.
