Both Newton and McGeary made weight ahead on Thursday ahead of their 205-pound championship bout at Bellator 134 "British Invasion." Newton, the reigning champion, tipped the scales at 204.5 pounds, while McGeary checked in at 204 pounds.

Bellator 134 takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Friday night and also includes a welterweight showdown between Paul Daley (171) and Andre Santos (171) in the co-main event. The evening’s main draw airs on Spike TV at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, while the preliminary draw streams immediately prior on Spike.com at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.

Newton captured the promotion’s interim light heavyweight crown with a unanimous decision triumph over Muhammed Lawal at Bellator 106 and then unified the belt with a split decision win against Attila Vegh at Bellator 113. “The Hardcore Kid” has since defeated Joey Beltran and Linton Vassell in his first two official title defenses.

McGeary has posted six consecutive first-round finishes since joining Bellator in early 2013. The 32-year-old Team Renzo Gracie member last competed at Bellator 124, where he submitted Kelly Anundson with an inverted triangle choke 4:47 into the opening stanza.
