Lester Caslow vs. Jay Haas

Round 1

The featherweights open with a minute of circling and pawing punches before Caslow slaps with an outside leg kick. Haas swings and misses on a right hand, stumbles and recovers before Caslow can rush in. Both fighters are landing kicks, and now Haas goes to the body with front kicks. Caslow comes in behind a missed spinning kick and clinches up to try a trip. He can’t get Haas to the ground, and Haas reverses to take the outside position with an underhook. Haas exits with a left hand, and the pair resumes circling. Haas backs up to avoid a front kick to the face, comes back and gives Caslow one to the leg which is checked. Haas slips on a combo and eats a counter right hand in the closing seconds.

Round 2

Haas goes back to low-kicking, and Caslow answers in kind with an outside leg kick which spins his opponent around. Caslow tries another front kick up the middle, misses and takes a kick to the leg. It’s all kicks through 90 seconds of round two, and referee Bill Bookwalter tells both fighters to get busy. Haas sticks a right hook on the end of a two-piece combo and slips away from Caslow’s counter. Caslow lands a leg kick, eats a counter hook and lands another. Haas swipes a left hook across Caslow’s face and wraps him up against the fence, but it’s Caslow reversing direction for a takedown straight into side control. Haas puts him back in guard with 70 seconds left and drives a pair of elbow strikes to the side of Caslow’s head. Haas frames up a kimura, looking to sweep, but Caslow keeps top position. Caslow drops a couple elbows and tries for a Peruvian necktie just before the bell.

Round 3

Neither fighter engages in the first 40 second of the final round, and then Haas thuds a wide right hook off Caslow’s head. Caslow answers with a sharp leg kick, and Haas circles a moment before responding with a push kick to the face. Ref Bookwalter calls for action again, and this time Caslow obliges with a right hand on the chin which sends Haas to the canvas. Caslow swarms with elbows and punches on the ground, then sets up a guillotine when Haas tries to sit up. Caslow pulls guard to try and finish, and Haas postures up to relieve the pressure. Haas gives the ref a thumbs up, but a few seconds later, he taps out.

Brett Glass vs. Brent Primus

Round 1

Glass hits Primus with a straight right and moves to close the gap, pressing Primus against the fence. Both men send knees up the middle, Glass getting the better until he’s reversed by Primus with double underhooks. Primus looks for a trip, can’t get it, and the lightweights move across the cage to pummel for position on the other side. Primus nearly drags Glass down but can’t keep him there. The third time is the charm, and Primus flattens out Glass from half guard. Primus nearly passes to side control, but Glass puts him back in guard. Instead, Primus passes to side control on the other side, then moves from knee-on-belly to full mount.

Glass gives up his back and Primus immediately starts working for a rear-naked choke. Primus sinks it in quickly and rolls Glass over to get the tap.

Ian Rammel vs. Bubba Jenkins

Round 1

Jenkins opens with a pair of right hands, landing the second one and sending Rammel shooting for a takedown. Jenkins stuffs it, naturally, and takes top position as he forces Rammel to the ground. Working from Rammel’s guard, Jenkins grinds his opponent’s face with elbows, forearms and short right hands. The pace slows as Jenkins flattens out Rammel, and referee Dan Miragliotta tells the wrestler to get busy if he wants to remain on the ground. Jenkins does just that, opening a cut on the outside of Rammel’s right eye with more short elbows. Rammel turns to his right to work on a kimura, defended well by Jenkins as he passes to half guard. Jenkins drops more punches on his leaning opponent and is warned for punching to the back of Rammel’s head. Rammel gives up on the kimura and eats a left hand up top. Ref Miragliotta stands them up with a minute left; 10 seconds later, Jenkins clips Rammel with a punch and stuffs another shot to wind up on top again. Jenkins rides out the remainder of the round on top.

Round 2

Jenkins floors Rammel with a double-leg in the first 20 seconds of the round and scoots him toward the fence from open guard. The wrestler spends the first half of the round trying to shore up his position, landing sporadic punches from the top while Rammel plays defense underneath. Rammel tries to turn to his right and escape, but he doesn’t make it and gets caught with a series of elbows and forearms to the face.

With 70 seconds left, Jenkins goes back to grinding and trying to advance position, then sits up and drops four or five left hands in quick succession. More left hands come from Jenkins in the closing minute, though none stiff enough to come close to a stoppage.

Round 3

Jenkins ducks a punch and plows Rammel to the mat with a power double-leg about 20 seconds into the final round. Rammel tries to use his legs to destabilize Jenkins’ base from open guard, but he grimaces as Jenkins grinds his face with more elbows. Jenkins gets kicked away and dives back down with a flying punch which goes off Rammel’s outstretched legs. Rammel sits up with his back on the fence to try a guillotine, but Jenkins quickly slips his head out. Hard right hands from Jenkins have Rammel turning over; instead of taking back-mount, Jenkins unloads with more punches.

Rammel turns to his back again and eats more heavy ground-and-pound, forcing ref Miragliotta to intervene.

Goiti Yamauchi vs. Saul Almeida

Round 1

Almeida is the busier fighter early, frenetically circling and sticking out jabs, but it’s Yamauchi landing the cleaner, harder punches with straight lefts. Yamauchi opts to clinch and gets reversed by the taller man. Yamauchi looks for the Thai plum, can’t pull down Almeida’s head and instead decks him with a hard, short elbow. Yamauchi gets some distance and unloads with punches, clipping Almeida with a pair of right hooks. A three-punch combination rocks Almeida’s head back and forth, sending him to the ground. Yamauchi stands over him and pounds Almeida into unconsciousness with vicious right hands until ref Keith Peterson steps in.

Blagoi Ivanov vs. Keith Bell

Round 1

The southpaw Ivanov moves backward as Bell creeps ahead, then reverses direction and takes a slapping kick to the body from the American. Bell clips Ivanov with a leaping knee and tries to pounce, but Ivanov gets back to his feet with a bloody nose. Bell shoves him against the cage with an underhook, then defends as Ivanov tries to loop his right arm around his head for a guillotine.

The big men separate and now Bell inches forward, flicking out jabs. Ivanov lands a punch of his own, doesn’t follow up and eats another right hand. Bell lands a leg kick and draws a deep breath before swinging and missing on an overhand right. Ivanov hits Bell with a straight left, then a short right as he shoves Bell against the fence. Ivanov pulls Bell off the fence with a single-leg and pulls him to the ground with just over one minute to go. Bell gives up his back and Ivanov hops on, and it’s less than five seconds later that Bell is tapping to a rear-naked choke.

Ahsan Abdullah vs. Mike Bannon

Round 1

Bannon comes forward from the bell, swinging punches, but he gets clipped with a wide overhand right from Abdullah and ties up against the cage. “The Irish Cannon” finishes a takedown and passes to side control on Abdullah’s left side. Bannon drives a couple knees to Abdullah’s body before stepping into full mount, and then hops off the other side with a deep arm-triangle choke sunk in. Abdullah gives ref Bill Bookwalter a thumbs up, but he goes unconscious from the choke a few seconds later.

Terry Etim vs. Patrick Cenoble

Round 1

Etim gets inside on a quick, high double-leg and takes down Cenoble near the fence. Cenoble gives up his back and Etim hops on, then stays on top and takes full mount as Cenoble rolls his back onto to the canvas. Cenoble gets his left leg in to establish half guard, then puts Etim in full guard. Etim stands and gets popped with an upkick, then comes back to his knees in Cenoble’s guard with a pair of punches. A right hand up top lands for Etim before he’s pushed away again by Cenoble, who rolls over and has his back taken again as Etim dives back to the ground. Etim goes for a rear-naked choke, can’t get his arm under Cenoble’s chin and instead tries for a neck crank. Cenoble resists this but can’t free himself from Etim’s body triangle. Cenoble gets to a knee with Etim still latched on, and Etim spends a minute working to soften up Cenoble for another RNC attempt. Cenoble does well to defend, remaining in his kneeling position and defending the choke for the final minute of the round.

Round 2

Etim swings and misses with a right high kick, then forces Cenoble to deflect the next one off his gloves. Cenoble stuffs the Englishman’s first shot of the round, but Etim finds success on the next double-leg as he takes advantage of a missed uppercut from Cenoble. Referee Keith Peterson tells the fighters to work after a few seconds of Cenoble wrapping up Etim from underneath. Etim tries to get tricky, using wrist control to stretch out Cenoble’s arms and then releasing to strike, but Cenoble continues to defend well from his back and the pace remains sluggish. Midway through the round, Etim passes to the left side and briefly takes head-and-arm control, but Cenoble puts him back in guard. Ref Peterson stands them up with two minutes to go. Cenoble lands a leg kick, pulls up short on a jab and blocks another high kick. Etim rushes in behind the kick, though, and puts Cenoble on the ground. Cenoble struggles back to his feet with 30 seconds left and hits the creeping Etim with a couple leg kicks before the round ends.

Round 3

Etim sticks a straight right on Cenoble’s face and runs in to take down the American at the base of the fence. Cenoble grabs for a guillotine as he’s put on the ground, but he has no chance to finish with Etim in his half guard and quickly releases. Etim passes to side control on Cenoble’s right, putting himself between Cenoble and the cage, and begins working to secure a crucifix.

Cenoble turns over, and once again Etim secures back-control with a body triangle. There’s still half a round to go as Etim begins trying to slip his left forearm underneath Cenoble’s chin. After 30 or 40 seconds of this, Cenoble begins throwing right hands over his shoulder. The punches are landing clean, but Cenoble can’t commit to them fully as he continues to fend off Etim’s arms. With about 30 seconds remaining in the fight, Cenoble twists around and winds up on top, where he’s wrapped up by Etim to finish the fight.

Bellator Season 9 155-Pound Tournament Final:
Alexander Sarnavskiy vs. Will Brooks

Round 1

Sarnavskiy opens with a jab to the body and a snappy leg kick inside. The Russian is able to defend Brooks’ first shot and separate, but the wrestler comes back to tie up again and this time puts the fight on the fence. Sarnavskiy reverses and the lightweights separate, giving Brooks space to land a few leg kicks, while Sarnavskiy loads up with punching combinations. Brooks rips a left hook to Sarnavskiy’s body, then rocks the head of the “Tiger” with an uppercut. Sarnavskiy brings the fight back to the fence and gets turned around, but he defends with a wide base as Brooks tries to lift and slam. Brooks hits Sarnavskiy with a couple knees to the body before finishing the takedown halfway through the round. Sarnavskiy posts and scoots up the cage to stand. Back on their feet, Sarnavskiy drills Brooks with a pair of hard hooks to the body, then a knee up the middle from the Thai clinch. Brooks gets another takedown, this time in the center of the cage. He stands up and drops left-handed ground-and-pound through Sarnavskiy’s guard, then comes back to the ground and grinds with elbows to the face.

Round 2

Sarnavskiy whips some hard kicks to the body of Brooks, who keeps a wide stance and circles out, sticks a punch and backpedals to avoid a spinning back fist. Brooks shoots another double in the center of the cage, rushes Sarnavskiy over to the fence and separates just as Sarnavskiy tries to take his head off with an uppercut. Brooks charges in for another try at the takedown, finishing this time near the fence. Sarnavskiy threatens by throwing up his legs, can’t grab hold of anything, so he pulls rubber guard while Brooks socks him with right hands. Brooks stands and comes back down, stacking up Sarnavskiy in an awkward position where the cage meets the canvas. Ref Keith Peterson calls for action, and Brooks drops a shot that opens up a cut at the outside corner of Sarnavskiy’s left eye. Sarnavskiy turns to his right, posting on his right forearm and allowing Brooks to jump on his back with one hook in. Brooks keeps the right arm pinned and drops left hands on his opponent’s unprotected face. Sarnavskiy turns over, giving Brooks full mount, but time runs out before Brooks can get busy.

Round 3

Brooks shoots a high double-leg, defended at first by Sarnavskiy with a wide base and his back to the fence. After a little more work, Brooks finishes the takedown, and the lightweights resume the position from the previous round.

It's Brooks on top in Sarnavskiy’s closed guard, swinging short punches to the body and head while Sarnavskiy shifts aimlessly underneath. Brooks turns up the heat on his left hands midway through the round, stunning Sarnavskiy, who wraps up Brooks’ head to try and close the gap. With 80 seconds left, Brooks lays some more hard lefts on Sarnavskiy’s face, further bloodying it and getting the attention of ref Peterson, who is hovering nearby. Brooks gets to full mount, then back mount with 35 seconds on the clock, and he finishes the round attacking Sarnavskiy from the back.

Rick Hawn vs. Ron Keslar

Round 1

Keslar rushes in behind a flying knee and shoves Hawn to the ground, trying to pound out the judoka with punches from guard. Hawn gets his bearings underneath and defends well enough to stay in the fight as Keslar sets up in his half guard. Keslar postures up to drop heavy left hands as Hawn gets to a knee, then back to his feet. Keslar is quick to press him against the cage and throws a few knees up the middle before separating. Hawn comes forward now, touching Keslar with a few jabs but missing with follow-up uppercuts. A short, hard right lands for Hawn before he steps off and pumps his jab in Keslar’s face. A stiff one-two combo rocks Keslar’s head, but he quickly grabs the clinch and roughs up Hawn against the fence with some knees to the body. Keslar finishes the round leaning Hawn against the cage.

Round 2

Both welterweights land hard shots in the clinch, but it’s Keslar driving Hawn across the cage with a high takedown attempt. Hawn looks to throw Keslar as he moves backward, can’t do it and instead waits out the clinch on the fence. Hawn separates after a minute and sticks a long pair of straight punches in Keslar’s face. Overhand right lands for Hawn, then a right to the gut of Keslar and a lead left up top. Hawn moves in and out on the taller man halfway through the round, sticking his jab and slipping out. Keslar tries to close the gap and hit Hawn with knees to the body, but Hawn circles and evades. More jabs are landing for Hawn, marking up the right side of Keslar’s face. Keslar wraps up Hawn on the fence and works for a takedown; after a few seconds, Hawn shrugs at ref Miragliotta and, a moment later, gets a separation. Keslar tries to step in with a knee, gets left behind as Hawn dips out. Hawn keeps the jabs coming in the final 30 seconds, closing out the round with a left high kick to the side of Keslar’s head.

Round 3

Hawn starts off the round by getting back to work with his jab, sticking and moving out of range before Keslar can return fire. Coming in behind his lead hand, a Hawn right straight rocks Keslar, but the AKA fighter recovers even after a prolonged series of nasty uppercuts. Hawn drills him with another straight right, and this one has Keslar badly hurt. Keslar stays on his feet, absorbing the follow-up shots from Hawn, who resets and turns out Keslar’s lights with one last, devastating right hand. Keslar goes down flat and the bout is halted before Hawn can even follow up.

Bellator Middleweight Title Fight:
Alexander Shlemenko vs. Doug Marshall

Round 1

Shlemenko hits a powerful double-leg takedown against the cage in the first 20 seconds, but Marshall is back on his feet 10 seconds later. They fight off the fence and Marshall lands a leg kick, then gets tripped up with a spinning kick to the chest. Shlemenko gets inside and muscles Marshall against the fence for a moment before releasing. Shlemenko completes another takedown in the center of the cage and postures up in Marshall’s closed guard. Marshall nearly sweeps to top position, instead scrambles back to his feet.

Shlemenko takes a kick low and claims it hit the cup, but ref Dan Miragliotta tells the middleweights to fight on. Shlemenko changes levels for another shot, can’t finish it and instead hits Marshall with a couple knees in the Thai plum. Marshall backs him off with a right hand, but Shlemenko comes right back with some punches to Marshall’s ribs. Shlemenko backs out to land another body shot, a big one to the liver this time, and Marshall is in trouble. Shlemenko backs out for a second, then comes back to deliver another left hook to the liver. This one sends Marshall to the canvas in a heap, and ref Miragliotta steps in to wave it off.
