Sergio da Silva vs. Robert Sullivan

Round 1

As soon as da Silva looks to throw punches at the approaching Sullivan, the American changes level and takes him to the mat. Da Silva overbooks Sullivan's right arm but it goes nowhere as he can't find an armbar. Sullivan escapes and da Silva grapevines his leg, working for a heel hook. Sullivan hammerfists and turns out of the attempt, but da Silva uses the attempt to scramble to top position. He can't pin down Sullivan, who tries to slide up the fence, but winds up in another precarious spot with da Silva rolling for another leg lock. They end up both going for toeholds on one another, Sullivan going belly-down and committing to it. Da Silva doesn't panic, casually rolling to his back, then picking Sullivan's ankle off the mat. Sullivan pops up and gets to his feet along the fence before the bell.

Round 2

Sullivan changes levels and puts da Silva on the mat with another double-leg takedown. Da Silva undercooks Sullivan's leg and switches to the deep half guard in pursuit of another leg lock attempt. Da Silva gets his far leg over Sullivan's face and turns his body over, trying to go over the top for an armbar. Sullivan pulls out and starts chipping away from full guard. Sullivan powers his way to half guard, working right hands to da Silva's face and lefts to the body. Da Silva retains full guard but Sullivan keeps chopping away until the bell, cutting up the scalp of his head.

Sullivan took a decision over da Silva.
Sullivan bulls forward for a takedown, eventually getting a crotchlift, gradually dragging his Brazilian foe away from the cage and dumping him to the mat. Sullivan passes to half guard and hammers away with elbows. Da Silva gets guard back and aimlessly punches from his back. Sullivan smacks da Silva with some swooping right-handed shots. Once more, da Silva locks up a leg. His kneebar and toehold attempts are shut down by Sullivan, who goes back to pounding away with 80 seconds to fight. Da Silva is out of gas and Sullivan punches away to his ribs until the final bell sounds.

Ryan Cafaro vs. Dan Matala

Round 1

Matala closes the distance on Cafaro and chases him into an awkward, easy takedown. In the ensuing scramble, Matala nearly gets Cafaro's back, but the lanky fighter opts to star back up instead. Matala tries to bull his way in close again, but Cafaro grabs a guillotine and jumps to guard. Matala breaks the choke and takes top position, passing to half guard. Matala opens up with both hands, raining down heavy punches. Cafaro kicks him away, but the Philadelphian shucks his legs by and delivers more punishment. Cafaro tries to crawl up the cage , but Matala hops on his back, sinks his hooks and bangs on his head with both fists. Matala squeezes a rear-naked choke but can't sink it deep enough under Cafaro's chin. Cafaro explodes back to his feet, only to be pelted with more flailing strikes from the aggressive Matala. Hard clinch knees follow from Matala, striking the head and body. Matala drops and goes for a takedown, winding up in a choke for a second. He drops to guard to escape and Cafaro nearly jumps into an armbar at the bell.

Matala stopped Cafaro in round two.
The second round starts much the same as the first, with Matala bulling forward into the clinch and throwing heavy knees. He gets a rear waistlock on Cafaro, kneeing to the thighs and rag dolling him around. Matala brings him down to all fours, slamming him with left hands. With Cafaro pinned against the fence, Matala drills him with knees to the body before hammerfisting him again from the turtle position. Matala takes the back along the fence again, angling for a rear-naked choke. Matala figure-fours his arms around Cafaro's neck while the New Jersey native tries crawling up the fence with his feet to break the choke.

He manages to escape for a moment, but Matala holds his back, body triangles him and goes back to punching him. Matala looks at referee Gasper Oliver, wondering when he'll intervene. Matala gets busy smacking Cafaro with both hands again and Oliver's hand is forced.

Will Martinez vs. Kevin Roddy

Martinez tied up Roddy and forced a tap.
Martinez knocks Roddy off balance with a glancing punch, but can't capitalize before his opponent gets back to his feet. Martinez drags him back to the canvas but struggles to keep effective ground-and-pound going from full guard. Roddy keeps shifting his hips looking for a submission opening but can't find much. Martinez finally stands out of his guard and dives back in with a hard, whipping right. Martinez settles in half guard and looks for a keylock on Roddy's far arm. Roddy escapes, but Martinez shrewdly moves right into full mount, blasting away with both hands. Roddy rolls and is instantly ensnared in a rear-naked choke. Roddy is
trapped and subsequently tapped.

Liam McGeary vs. Najim Wali

McGeary trapped Wali and put him away.
McGeary succeeds with a quick takedown, but he can't hold his foe down and Wali is quickly back up to his feet. McGeary punishes Wali against the cage, unloading on him. Wali takes off, but McGeary stays on him and smashes him to the mat with a heavy right elbow. He quickly rolls to Wali's back and goes for an armbar, but Wali squirms out and dives into the guard of McGreary. It proves to be a very poor decision as McGeary slaps on a quick triangle choke. Wali is stuck but keeps fighting while McGeary adjusts. As Wali keeps fighting, McGeary switches off to an armbar and goes belly down, coaxing the tap.

Kenny Foster vs. Anthony Morrison

Round 1

The two fighters meet in the middle of the cage and Foster presses forward with a straight right. The two grapple against the cage with Foster landing knees to the body of Morrison. Morrison slips out and lands a left hand on the break. A leg kick from Morrison agains backs up his opponent. Morrison continues to stalk his foe so Foster spins him around and presses him against the fence. The two fighters stall for a moment before Foster dives for a single leg takedown. Morrison shucks it and pressed Foster against the cage. Morrison fires a big uppercut and Foster responds with a knee to the genitals. The fight is stopped for minute. Referee Keith Peterson restarts the bout and Morrison shoves Foster against the cage. The two break and “Cheesesteak” lands a right hand on the break. Foster follows his foe around the cage before landing a thudding kick that bounces off Morrison's arms and lands to the cup once again. Morrison shakes it off and the fight restarts but the round ends before any action can occur.

“Cheesesteak” served up a rare majority decision.
Just as the two look to square off again, Keith Peterson calls time for a moment as Morrison has forgot his mouthguard. Upon getting it in, Morrison slips on a body kick, allowing Foster to briefly move into guard. Morrison explodes to his feet and the two clinch up along the cage again. Foster keeps ramming Morrison into the fence but can't get the takedown. They separate and Morrison lands a hard right hook that snaps Foster's head back. Morrison circles the outside, jabbing and throwing inside low kicks as the southpaw Foster stalks him with his lead hand low.

Hard one-two by Foster dings Morrison and forces him to retreat. Foster runs into the clinch again, trying to find a takedown with over-unders. Morrison finally exits with a chopping right hand. Foster goes for a kneetap, but eats a right hook counter from Morrison. Foster clinches, absorbing a knee to the gut. They each land a body kick at the bell.

Round 3

Foster pressures Morrison back to the cage and digs to the body before the Philly fighter escapes. They trade single power punches until coming together in a clinch once more. In a familiar theme, Foster throws a knee that strays low, doubling Morrison over. This time, referee Keith Peterson deducts a point from the New Yorker. Foster immediately seeks the clinch again, throwing hard elbows up top while Morrison rips him with right hands to the ribcage. “Cheesesteak” pushes for a takedown against the cage that just isn't there and Foster pushes him away. Morrison shoots a right hand that misses and eats a left in return. Foster loading up on his left uppercut but can't find the punch. He goes back to his jab and pops Morrison a few times but cannot follow up with power shots. Morrison starts to swing and now Foster tags him with two clean left hooks. They clinch and linger for a minute before Morrison pops Foster with a right hand. Another clinch ends with both fighters winging wild hooks until the bell.

Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Jesus Martinez

Round 1

Burrell opens with heavy kicking offense, going to the ribs of Martinez. Martinez catches one of them and tries to drive a single-leg takedown but Burrell escapes. Martinez now tries to show off some of his own kicking offense, but can't land clean. A left hook to the body lands for Martinez but he still can't come in behind it strong enough to get a takedown. Burrell rips his hands off of his legs and turns Martinez's back to the cage. Burrell starts pumping his jab in Martinez's face, prompting his foe to return with a kick. When he does, Burrell loads up on his right and knocks Martinez to the mat before dismissively walking away, beckoning him back to the stand up. Burrell opens fire again, tagging Martinez and prompting another shot. Burrell defends and runs him into the fence again. They separate and Martinez lands a right hand, but Burrell tags him again before the bell.

Burrell decisioned Martinez after three periods.
More of the same pace in the second, with Burrell throwing looping hooks and inside kicks while Martinez works his jab and tries to find power punches behind it. Burrell throws an inside low kick that appears to catch Martinez on the cup but referee Gasper Oliver says it's legal and tells the pair to continue. Martinez quickly shakes it off and the pair go back to alternating jabs and kicks. Burrell breaks the lull in the action by catching his fellow Philadelphian with another kick to the groin and this time Oliver calls it, giving Martinez a brief respite.

Burrell is more aggressive off of the restart and tries to match Burrell punch-for-punch. Burrell still landing solid salvos of punches but Martinez answering more effectively with his hands. “Chavo” drops for another takedown which Burrell stuffs, prompting another aimless clinch against the cage. Left hook-right cross combination lands for Martinez on the break but he reshoots and gets nowhere with it. Martinez simply doesn't have the wrestling chops to get this on the mat. Left hook-right uppercut glances Martinez and Burrell clinches up again. Burrell gets wrist control and knees to the body. Before the bell, Burrell elevates Martinez and tries to slam him to the canvas but foolishly winds up bailing out and giving Martinez his back. Lucky for “The Rock n' Rolla,” time expires before Martinez can get any offense going.

Round 3

More punching barrages for Burrell score and he's able to run Martinez back to the cage again. Flying knee from Burrell makes contact with the now-bloodied Martinez. Martinez grabs onto a front headlock and after a methodical moment or two, tries to jump guard. Burrell pulls his head out quickly and gets out of the clinch. As soon as the UFC veteran opens up, Martinez goes for another lame duck takedown attempt. The pace slows to a crawl, prompting referee Gasper Oliver to separate the pair. However, they're right back in the clinch after a brief punch exchange. They separate more quickly this time and Burrell lands another left hook-right uppercut combo, getting the blood flowing from Martinez's nose again. Front kick lands for Burrell, followed by another glancing flying knee. Martinez latches onto a waistlock and Burrell patiently turns around and breaks his grip. They strike from distance again with a minute to fight and Martinez lands two good hooks upstairs before inviting another pointless clinch. Martinez gets another waistlock but can't get Burrell to the mat, at least not until Burrell jumps a guillotine just before the horn.

Jason Lambert vs. Tom DeBlass

DeBlass melted Lambert with his hands.
The stocky UFC veteran tries to pressure DeBlass from the outset. Lambert stalks in with short hooks but can't land on the taller DeBlass. The BJJ black belt continues circling away from Lambert, trying to land counterpunches. DeBlass starts to find his range with his left hook, putting several on the charging Lambert. DeBlass lands another left hook, then a front kick. Lambert gets aggressive again and walks right into a left hook that puts him to the mat. The Californian gets up quickly but his nose is bloodied and he's on wobbly legs.

He tries to engage DeBlass once more and is corked with another heavy left hook that drops him in a pile. Referee Dan Miragliotta dives in to save Lambert before DeBlass can even advance on his barely conscious body.

Chip Moraza-Pollard vs. Sam Oropeza

Sammy “O” showed Pollard his “O” face.
Oropeza opens up the contest by winging head kicks but misses his target. Moraza-Pollard throws a one-two, but Oropeza responds with a hard kick. Moraza-Pollard jumps forward but “Sammy O” cracks him with an overhand left, dropping him to the canvas. Oropeza rushes forward and lands an incredible follow-up left cross on Moraza-Pollard as he attempts to regain his feet, and referee Keith Peterson dives in to save the wrecked Moraza-Pollard from any further punishment.

Bellator Season 9 Featherweight Tournament Final:
Patricio Freire vs. Justin Wilcox

“Pitbull” hibernated “The Silverback.”
The first real exchange between the featherweights sees a clash of heads. Neither man is visibly cut or damaged, fortunately. When they come in with punches next, a crushing Freire jab wobbles Wilcox and forces him to step back. Wilcox looking to change levels as he steps in on the Brazilian, but Pitbull swarms him with hooks and sprawls on his attempts. Freire nearly takes Wilcox's back out of the sprawl, but Wilcox regains his feet. Wilcox just can't close the distance on Freire, who continues to land hard, lead left hands and hook combinations. A jab-right hook combo cracks the AKA product on the forehead and wobbles him.

Freire pounces with punches and is relentless, pounding the scrambling Wilcox with rights and lefts all over the cage. Wilcox just can't get away and Freire flattens him out, forcing him belly down while continuing his assault with punches. Referee Gasper Oliver has no other option but to rescue the prone Wilcox from any further damage.

Marcos Galvao vs. Tom McKenna

Galvao made it look easy vs. McKenna.
McKenna and Galvao meet in the center of the cage and touch gloves. McKenna paws with his jab and Galvao responds with a leg kick. Galvao lands a looping overhand right and follows it up with another. The two fighters tangle and Galvao tosses McKenna to the mat with ease. Galvao quickly moves to take his foe's back and looks for a rear-naked choke. He is high on McKenna's back and instead punches him until he is flat on his chest. McKenna rolls over and the Nova Uniao black belt moves into full mount. An elbow to the ribs softens McKenna and he rolls onto his chest.

Galvao moves for another rear-naked choke but McKenna is on his side so he can't sink it in cleanly. The Brazilian rides McKenna until he his on his side and he rains down blows on his foe. Gavao looks for an armbar from bottom but McKenna quickly slips out. Galvao takes McKenna back to the ground with a double-leg slam. This is a complete domination by Galvao. He quickly moves to mount and McKenna rolls belly down. Galvao continues attacking his foe with punches until he fails to respond and referee Keith Peterson calls the bout.

Bellator Heavyweight Championship:
Alexander Volkov vs. Vitaly Minakov

Round 1

Minakov broke Volkov with an uppercut.
Minakov rushes the taller Volkov to close the distance, changing levels and winging overhands. He runs the champion back into the cage, landing hard knees to the body and lefts upstairs. Minakov secures over-unders and forces his man into the cage. He attempts to pull Volkov to the mat, but Volkov blocks it and lands on top. Minakov, however, rolls through and winds up on top in Volkov's full guard. Volkov locks down an overbook on Minakov's right arm and simply tries to stall to a stand-up and in spite of the challenger's best efforts, he's successful as referee Dan Miragliotta stands them up. Minakov immediately starts pursuing
Volkov once more.

The champ throws a long, lazy jab while Minakov steps in and rips him with a crushing right uppercut. Volkov tumbles to the floor and the challenger is all over him. Volkov is covering up and doing his best to regain his wits, but Minakov's pressure is relentless. Volkov can't get away and Minakov bashes away with both hands until Miragliotta rescues Volkov, crowing Vitaly Minakov the new Bellator heavyweight champion.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Joey Beltran

Jackson cracked Beltran with a left hook.
“Rampage” quickly walks Beltran down to the fence and lands a leg kick. He punches into the clinch and lands a few knees. Beltran throws a left elbow and series of punches that miss, but he cracks Jackson with a follow-up right cross. Beltran circles side-to-side and Jackson throws his hands up, urging him to engage. Jackson whiffs on a pair of hooks. A leg kick lands for Jackson, followed by a short right hook. Beltran flicks his jab out four times and all of them are easily slipped by Jackson, who returns with a leg kick. Beltran punches into the clinch and smothers Rampage once more.

Beltran digs to the legs and looks for a takedown. They trade uppercuts inside while pummelling but Beltran stays glued to Jackson, digging with short shots to the body and head. Jackson can't get off the cage as Beltran grabs wrist control and peppers him with knees. He finally gets free with 30 seconds left in the round. As the seconds tick down, Jackson jumps on Beltran, firing hooks with both hands. A left hook-right hook tandem finally breaks through and drops Beltran to his knees. Rampage dives in with a follow-up haymaker right at the bell, forcing referee Dan Miragliotta to stop the action with just one second left in the opening round.
