The Walkmen: UFC 193 Walkout Songs

They call her “The Preacher’s Daughter,” and newly minted Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight titleholder Holly Holm had a good reputation prior to UFC 193 on Saturday at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia; and it has only gotten better since.

Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” graced the ears of the fans when Ronda Rousey walked to the Octagon for the headliner, but it would be Holm who walked out of the cage victorious. Holm’s fighting style was anything but sweet and nice, as she used Rousey’s aggressiveness against her with straight left hands and a head kick that netted her a shocking second-round knockout.

Rousey’s resume received its first blemish, as she suffered her first loss as a mixed martial artist. No one had come close to beating the “Rowdy” judoka, and only Miesha Tate had forced her to go beyond the first round. Holm, who was carried to the cage by Blair Douglas’ “The Landlord’s Walk,” now sits atop the 135-pound division with a perfect 10-0 record.

In the co-main event, American Top Team’s Valerie Letourneau walked out to Lecrae’s “Walk With Me.” However, she would have fared better by walking away from UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Letourneau put up a tougher fight than most expected, but continuous leg kicks from the champion hindered her ability to fight, let alone walk. Jedrzejczyk won a five-round unanimous decision to retain her title.

Before his technical knockout against Antonio Silva, Mark Hunt was ushered to the Octagon by Naughty By Nature’s “Feel Me Flow.” The 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix winner showed off a streamlined physique in his rematch with Silva and had to have liked the results, as he stopped “Bigfoot” with a glancing right hand to the side of the head and follow-up punches in the first round.

Other notable song choices included “Power,” by Kanye West, which trumpeted Uriah Hall’s arrival prior to his unanimous decision loss to Robert Whittaker; Phil Collins’ “In the Air,” which played before Jared Rosholt wrestled Stefan Struve to a unanimous verdict; and Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” which preceded Jake Matthews’ technical knockout on Akbarh Arreola.
