While there were not many big-name boxers in action during the weekend of Feb. 14-16, there were certainly plenty of fireworks inside the squared circle.

Ryan Garcia remained unbeaten by destroying veteran tough guy Francisco Fonseca in just 80 seconds on Friday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. “Kingry” was patient at the start, but once Fonseca (25-3-2, 19 KOs) gave him an opening to unload his crushing power, he jumped at the opportunity. A perfect counter left hook to the chin from Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) knocked his opponent senseless and showed yet again that the Victorville, California, native has all the tools to become a major star in the sport. Most expect Garcia to face Jorge Linares (47-5, 29 KOs)—he scored a devastating fourth-round knockout of Carlos Morales (19-5-4, 8 KOs) on the undercard—sometime this summer.

Ramos, Plant Deliver KOs in Nashville

Abel Ramos (26-3-2, 20 KOs) on Saturday found himself trailing Bryant Perrella on the scorecards but made every second count at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Perrella (17-3, 14 KOs) was ahead 87-84, 88-83 and 88-83 when Ramos dropped him into the ropes late in the 10th round. “Goodfella” climbed back to his feet, only to be felled by another volley of punches in the waning moments. When veteran referee Jack Reiss saw Perrella stumble towards the ropes, he called for the stoppage with one second remaining in the fight.

Meanwhile, Caleb Plant retained his IBF super middleweight championship when he put away Vincent Feigenbutz (31-3, 28 KOs) in the 10th round. Plant (20-0, 12 KOs) was a 40-to-1 favorite and dominated his challenger from start to finish, bringing it to a close at 2:23 of Round 10. The 27-year-old champion expects to face WBC titleholder David Benavidez in a 168-pound unification bout later this year.
