Zavurov Set To Defend Welterweight Title at M-1 Challenge XXIII

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Newly crowned M-1 Challenge welterweight champion Shamil Zavurov will defend his title for the first time at M-1 Challenge XXIII on Saturday March 5th from the Crocus City Arena in Moscow, Russia. Making the trek overseas intent on making the champ’s reign short-lived is New Jersey native and 2010’s M-1 Selection – Americas tournament winner, Tom ‘Da Tank’ Gallicchio. “Our Challenge XXIII card is getting stronger by the day and the addition of the evening’s second title fight is more proof,” says M-1 Global’s Director of Operations, Evgeni Kogan. “The contest between Zavurov and Gallicchio has been anticipated since last year as both men are extremely well matched. Knowing fans are expecting this to be ‘fight of the night’, both fighters have made it clear that they’re preparing to deliver career performances.”

The pair were originally slated to meet last December but personal situations forced Gallicchio to withdraw from the contest. Staying on top of his training and getting his matters in order, Gallicchio’s camp is in full swing and the #1 contender is ready make the trip to Russia for his shot at the M-1 gold.
