UFC stars to fight for Heavyweight Title in Belfast

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Northern Ireland’s only ever heavyweight UFC fighter Colin “Big C” Robinson is making his return to the octagon when he fights for the Cage Contender Heavyweight Title at Belfast’s Kings Hall Complex on 8th October. Ballymena man Robinson (43) has fought some of the world’s highest ranked heavyweights including UFC hall of fame inductee Dan “The Beast” Severn and was one of the biggest draws when UFC came to Belfast in 2007. Standing in the opposite corner in Belfast will be UK UFC vet Neil “Old Skool” Wain, who is known for being heavy handed with 7 of his 9 professional wins coming by way of knock out. Robinson also has a high KO percentage with 6 of his 9 wins finishing that way too. It’s expected to be a toe to toe stand up war and Robinson will no doubt want to use his 7 inch height advantage to keep Wain at bay.

Chief support sees Cage Contender Lightweight Champion “Magic” Myles Price making the first defence of his coveted strap when he steps into the cage to face arch nemesis Bushmills “Stormin'” Norman Parke. When the two last met in February 2010 Parke handed Price a very convincing defeat, by submission early in round one. For Price this match up could be as much about regaining his pride than keeping his title of champion. This contest is no doubt one of the most highly anticipated European fights of 2011; there has been over 12 months of controversy and speculation since Price gained the title with many in Europe believing that Parke should have got the shot first. Now that both fighters are back from injury, Cage Contender promoter John Ferguson has vowed to put the demons to rest and sort it out once and for all in the cage.

The undercard for this event has also thrown up many fights that are worthy of topping the bill on anywhere. Cage Contender took particular delight in announcing the return to Irish soil of international MMA stalwart Magherafelts Greg “Hitman” Loughran. This will be the first time that Loughran has seen action in an Irish cage since May 2008 and is seen by many as one of the biggest coups ever pulled off by the Cage Contender brand.
