Sokoudjou to Face Desilets on theScore Fighting Series
May 20, 2011
(PRESS RELEASE) -- Score Media Inc. (TSX: SCR) today announces the
top end of theScore Fighting Series card on June 10th is now
complete with Martin “The Stress” Desilets agreeing to face Thierry
Sokoudjou in a light heavyweight match-up. Desilets (11-3) is one
of Canada’s top light heavyweights and has won four of his last
five fights. He has been fighting professionally since 2005 and
boasts a win over current UFC light heavyweight Krzysztof
Soszynski. Desilets loves to stand and trade with his opponents and
is a true knockout artist with eight of his victories coming via KO
or TKO.
Sokoudjou (11-8) is a UFC, Strikeforce and Pride veteran with notable wins over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona. Born and raised in Cameroon, he moved to the United States in 2001 to pursue a career in judo. He currently trains out of San Diego with MMA icon Dan Henderson and other members of Team Quest. Known for incredible athleticism and trademark dreadlocks, Sokoudjou is a crowd favourite both inside and outside out the cage. As an homage to the many Photoshopped images of him on the Internet, Sokoudjou frequently wears a mask inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1987 action move "Predator" during his walk-in.
Other confirmed match-ups include a battle between UFC veterans Joe
“El Dirte” Doerksen and Luigi Fioravanti and a welterweight
showdown between DREAM welterweight champion Marius Zaromskis and
top Canadian prospect Jordan 'Young Guns' Mein. Top ranked Canadian
fighters Antonio 'Pato' Carvalho and Adrian 'The Bully' Wooley are
also scheduled on the card.
