Sports Direct was founded as a single store in Maidenhead as Mike Ashley Sports as recently as 1982; and has now grown to become the UK’s largest sports retailer now featured among the top 100 on the Stock Exchange. The SportsDirect.com retail group currently has over 470 stores including SportsDirect.com, Field and Trek, Hargreaves Sports, Gilesports and Donnay International stores; and stores in Ireland, Belgium, France, Portugal, Holland and Slovenia. Sports Direct is renowned for stocking the biggest sports brands at exceptional value for money.
BAMMA’s Director, Ashley Bothwell said:
“Sports Direct’s growth from a single store to an international brand is truly inspirational and certainly a model we aspire to at BAMMA. As two home-grown sports brands there is synergy between the goals of Sports Direct and BAMMA, as both businesses aim to make sports more accessible and increase participation in sports and sporting events. Through Lonsdale we’ve shared an informal relationship with Sports Direct in the past and it feels like the right time to formalise the partnership as we move into 2014 with more shows on a larger platform.”
